Intending to, can't seem to summon up the enthusiasm this year. On the plus side the weather is looking OK and we've had a couple of dry days leading up to it. You doing it?

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result

  • Yep, I'll be doing it, should be fairly interesting  doing it anti-clockwise.
  • ccw is a pain. far more pushing.

Definitely more pushing although I think some longer downhill bits too. Wasn't too bad, knocked 55 mins off last year's time 8) .

  • well done. rooley moor rd is horrible going down isn't? i'm doing it for the second time next saturday. i did it ccw last time. i reckon i should be able to get under 8 hours single speed. if i'm feeling good might even manage under 7 which i would be well chuffed with. is it a lot easier cw than ccw?

I think clockwise is easier, seems to be less pushing, however I'm not sure you get quite so many long downs doing it CW. I think my preference would still be CW.

  • Did this yesterday, punctured within the first 5 mins and never caught up!
Went over the bars on that steep twisty descent with the big drop on the right hand side, just before the second control point. Bruised shoulder, hip, back and hip. Oh yeah, sprained wrist as well, good job it was my paralysed hand.
Was officially the last one to finish with a spectacular time of 10 hrs 31 mins
90 mile drive home, sausage casserole and 5 bottles of Stella later and alls well with the world again :D
    Try again next year?
    Oh Yes.

Also did it yesterday, what a great day out. Personally much prefer CCW, would rather trade some short sharp pushes against brilliant downhills (Widdop Gate to Holme Chapel is just joy all the way).

Finishing time seems almost an irrelevance after such a lovely sunny day on dry trails (ie, there weren't a lot of cakes left when I got back).
  • I had a great day too, sorry if I got back before you and ate all the flapjack, it was deeeelicious!
