Something totally random for you lads and lasses. A bit of canteen chat.

My work always serve curries on a Thursday. Weatherspoon's curry night is Thursday night as is all the local Indian takeaway's who do all their deals on a Thursday.

Obviously, Fish is the tradional dish on a Friday. Does the same apply to curries and Thursday's?

Thoughts please..........

  • Isnt fish on Fridays something to do with the Byebel and Jebus? Which is weird actually as I have beer and curry on a Friday.
  • Thursday is the day of Thor, the God of thunder. Makes sense to have a curry doesn't it?
If they can get you asking the wrong questions, they don't have to worry about answers.

It's a stormy night in Greendale

Surely in that case you ought to be eating the curry on Wednesday in good time for the, erm, thunder to kick in on Thursday morning?

The story I've heard is that Elizabeth I imposed compulsory no meat eating days on Friday to support the fishing industry. Can't find a source for it though.

Due to working shifts my weekday nights are often my 'weekend' so to speak...

So sometimes I'll have a curry on a Monday morning...

It's Catholic in origin. I remember never eating meat on Fridays throughout my childhood. My mum still observes this.

"Catholics must not necessarily eat fish on Fridays. We must abstain from eating the flesh of meat on Fridays of Lent (obligatory), or all other Fridays if we don't choose some other form of penance (depends on what the Conference of Bishops in that particular country have come to)".

There's also a theory it started with a Pope, rather than Elizabeth I, asking the people to support the fishing industry...

Beavers were also eaten by Religionists on Fridays. They were regarded as honorary fish, due to their watery lifestyles.

Beaver Curry must only ever be eaten on a Wednesday, though.

MrsNapD thought it would be a good idea to give up physical relations on each Friday in Lent but then decided to carry it on for every Friday, then within a couple of weeks she extended it to every. single. day.

That's how it seems to me anyway.

I like to eat beaver but the Mrs don't serve it up often enough.

  • For some reason when working an afternoon shift we always send out for a curry on Thursday evening. Mind you we have to get it down us a bit sharp.
