Card cloned

So I had my credit card cloned. Whoopee F*****g do. Not happy just to get their thieving little hands on my card details they have also changed the name and address on my current account and joint savings account, changing all the phone numbers as well. This has had a knock on effect as I have several life insurance policies with the same bank. So how did these little sporns of satan get their hands on my card details? It would appear that they did it through the self service quick pay pumps at my local supermarket petrol station. So be vigilant folks and check whatever type of machine it is before you put your card in. If it looks DODGY then it proably is. Trust me the two week headache I've just endured, ( cards cancelled, not being able to pay for anything etc, etc ) Is a real pain in the ass.

Which petrol station was it?
Sorry to hear that mate, nightmare!0 -
Asda, Eastlands, facing Man Citys ground. Nuff said I suppose. What pissed me off though was when I approached Asda about this they said that they were already aware of the problem. Go figure.0

About 5 yrs ago i had my current account debit card cloned and they spent £7.5k in 24hrs. This was when cloning was in its infancy so to speak.
I went to my cashpoint and it refused to give me any money (insufficient funds), absolutely mortified i went home and rang Barclays who immmedietly stopped my card telling me to go the local branch the next day.
So i went to the branch and sat down with a loverly young lady and we went through my statement....
1) Lots of beds in London (apparently popular for cloners as without sounding racist it's a crime normally committed by aherm people who are new to the country and in need of a bed)
2) Lots of Pizza Express meals ???
3) Various goods from all over europe which would have been impossible for me to purchase
Barclays refunded everything and sorted my account and told me they suspected a local restaurant where i had been may be the root cause (police were informed).
I have heard nowadays that banks are a little less reluctant to sort everything out but to their credit Barclays were superb.
I left the branch a little less fraught until i got to my car where i found a parking ticket !!!!
Whole experience scared me witless and nowadays i am very very carefull.

What a pain in the ar5e Tonymufc.
Hey - my partner had a call from her bank 2 weeks ago as they noticed some strange online transactions on her account. They were fraudulent!
This was shortly after a visit to the ASDA petrol station in Cardiff (Leckwith Retail Park).
The petrol station is unmanned, I guess giving the little tossers all the time in the world to set up!_________________________________________________

Not cash machine mate, petrol pump. The ones that let you pay at the pump itself. Although the store is 24/7 the petrol station attendant finishes at 10pm but you can still use the pumps. What an invitation for these little shits. Like I said though just be careful, and don't ever take your eye off your card if you have to hand it over to anyone. DONT LET IT OUT OF YOUR SIGHT!!!!!!0 -
sh1t, just filled up at asda near the trafford centre!
I always use them quick card pumps.0 -
Happened to me, they nicked about £3k over a weekend........
Mostly hotel rooms, flights and Bar bills in night clubs......
Looked like they had a great weekend on me and the little scrotes did not even ask me along for a cheeky pint!
Apparently its quite common here and we often have our cards blocked by the bank as they are over cautious when they see spending in Jakarta.0 -
Thats horrible mate, hope you get it all sorted out.
RULE NUMBER 1. NEVER EVER USE CREDIT/DEBIT CARDS AT PETROL STATIONS!!!
They are the worst place for credit card cloning. Only ever use cash.0 -

I agree, petrol stations seem to be high risk.
Having said that just be aware at all times, I've heard of restaurant staff taking photo's of cards on their mobile phones.
My mum had her card skimmed in a Sainsbury's in London a few years back (think they caught the culprit) and my Mrs. had hers skimmed at a currency exchange booth at Heathrow Airport.
They should really have camera's covering all unmanned card locations, cash machines and petrol pumps in the main._________________________________________________

Had my card done last year and I know exactly where when and by whom. It was the first and only time I'd used the card in a year. I was paying for a meal in a pub, I didn't quite have enough cash so used the card, mysteriously the card reader on the bar didn't work, so the nice young lady took my card to the other reader in the kitchen. She didn't ask, just turned the bar top reader around, said something like this always happens wiped out my card and disappeared. Came back with another reader which she had to hold whilst PIN went in. Fortunately I checked the account online a week or so later and found a whole bunch of withdrawals at cash machines in India. The bank stopped the card and eventually refunded me, but weren't in the slightest bit interested in following it up any further even though I told them where it was pinched.0

Apparently the plods don't even deal with card fraud anymore. You just report it to your bank who will do their level best to dispute it and say you were negligent and not re-imburse you. If you ever get a fraudulent transaction that the bank says is your fault ask for the authorisation code for the actual individual transaction.
I had £3.5k stolen on my Visa card about 5 years ago. They bought a huge flat screen tv and loads of other stuff and grocery shopping in the SE London area. The stuff wasn't delivered to my billing address so didn't see any of it. I was in France cycling the Pyrenees at the time which was a pain as I had £40 cash to get from Pau to the UK. Fortunately I had just fille dup with diesel before my card was stopped. I even told the bank that I was going which in hindsight was a smart move as the scrotes did the spending whilst I was out of the UK. I believe it was either Speedferries or Halfords somewhere near Greenwich, Charlton or Woolwich where the fraudulent transactions took place.Life is like a roll of toilet paper; long and useful, but always ends at the wrong moment. Anon.
Think how stupid the average person is.......
half of them are even more stupid than you first thought.0
