LBS have supplied the wrong wheels - what would you do?

After taking some advice from this very forum, I bought a new wheelset based on NoTubes rims.

I'm still trying to figure out what I need to buy to get them to work, but it has just dawned on me, 2 weeks later, that the front rim is ZTR 355 (cross country - what I wanted) and the back one ZTR Flow - much sturdier downhill hoop.

Now part of me wants symmetry, did someone choose this pairing deliberately or is it just a case of fob of your customer with whatever stock we've got?

I'm trying to think of reasons to (a) keep them as they are or (b) take them back to the shop with a big strop attached.

(a) they look like a pair, how much difference can it make? I keep having heavy rear wheel landings anyway
(b) I paid £285 ffs.

    Talk to the shop.

same thing happened to me,the shop didnt even have the decency to email me back when i pointed out they had sent the wrong wheels!

if its going to bother you then get them changed or ask for a bit of a refund but it might just mean the back is a bit heavier and stronger which might be good but then again you want what you paid for!
  • Personally, for me, I'd keep it, BUT give the shop a ranty phone call, to the boss / owner / franchise manager, ONLY.

I'd keep it, because I don't (not can't!! ) do smooth, and like to plow through everything at mach 10, so a bit stronger on the rear is a wise choice for me. For you, maybe different, and you paid a fair bit of dollars on the bike, so you'd want it to be spot-on!

Anyhow, weigh up your options. Either way, ranty phone call (to the big-boss!!) is a certainty.Just because you may have got a sweet deal, doesn't mean it's acceptable to throw out whatever they feel like, to their customers!

it might just be me but at work if a customer gets ranty with me they get F all help from me,its the ones that are decent that I go out of my way for, so maybe if you do ring them up start nice and save the shouting if you are not getting anywhere.

    ???????????

p.s o you mean on the phone! I'm not that bad, they would just ring back anyway
  • I never mentioned any shouty phone calls!!!

Just a rant. It is, afterall, unacceptable to pay nearly £300 for a set of wheels (!!) and then have the WRONG ones sent out. If the OP decided to go either way, IMO a ranty (but NOT shouty or abusive) phone call is in order!!

    Got it???

see that just makes me want to laugh and not help,to me a rant is loud talking or shouting but a good out come for the op is what matters and if shouting or as you like to call it ranting does it then all good but like i said if i was serving him and he came in like that and also if i wasnt the one that made the mistake in the first place sorry but he would get no where like that with me.
  • snig - Looks like you and me have different opinion of ranting then...

If it was me, I'd phone up, and say something along the lines of... "This is un-acceptable, it shouldn't happen... ...I've spent nearly £300 on a set of wheels, custom built from you guys, and you didn't even have the decency to check it was correct..."

    Etc etc.

    Now do ya geddit???

I wouldn't phone up and shout "THIS IS A CROCK OF SH!T!!! YOU'RE ALL FCUKING W@NKERS, SO GIMME MY MONEY BACK, AND COMPENSATION, AND ANOTHER SET OF FREE WHEELS" etc etc.

That will get you absolutely no-where in life.

lol, I wasnt not getting it,my first post wasnt aimed at you so much, dont get me wrong ranting or shouting are sometimes needed but if like you say asking to speak to the ower/boss then start off by just telling him the situation and play it from there, maybe im jaded by working too much with the puplic, they are a weid bunch.

p.s maybe your second example might just work,it was a bit scary!

Mr_Si ....take it you haven't used them? whys it taken you 2 weeks to figure it out? man first thing I do with new bike kit is try the stuff out !

Any difference in the cost of the rims?...if its more would keep quiet as you've got one over them ! lol

Oh and everyone who thinks rocking into a shop shouting your mouth off...it dont work...you get no respect and everyone just thinks your a dick for doing it ! ...plus if you took it up with the Old Bill the shop could (and quite rightly say) you were acting aggressively and refuse to listen ....personally id tell you th "F##K off" then twat you with the largest wrench in the workshop :-) ...rant over lol....seriously diplomatic solutions work !

    Well... talk to the shop.

However on a perfomance point of view I find it quite interesting there was no apparent difference.

Surely the way to go is to just mention it to the shop and give them the opportunity to say sorry we made a mistake, or whatever, before deciding how you proceed. It's a bit sad to leap to the conclusion that they are trying to have one over on you. I wonder from your post whether you bought the wheels from somewhere that has a reputation for playing a bit fast and loose? I can't imagine many LBS intentionally pulling a fast one with a potentially high value customer.

  • There's no point going into the shop and having a go at them, maybe they just made that simplest of human errors you know....a mistake?
  • I bought my Shova frame from CRC. It was supposed to come with a Fox shock but arrived with a Manitou one. Quick call to complain and they offered me £80 in vouchers as compensation.

    I'd DEFINITELY phone and complain.

yes phone and be diplomatic and fair, assertive but not aggressive, saying things like 'this is not good enough' is pointless and gets people stressed, you will not gain from that, just point out the mistake and let them give you a solution.

personally I check things the minute they arrive as mistakes do happen.
  • So you didn't get what you paid for. Are you happy with what you did get?, if so why bother even mentioning it. If not get in touch with the shop, point out the mistake and ask them to correct it.....as the ad says.....simples!.

It seems the assumption is almost that they did it on purpose to rip you off or get rid of some old/unwanted stock and you need to go and rant at them and give them a bollocking. As has been said they may have made a genuine mistake and be happy to correct it if you give them the opportunity to do so.
