Do everything cyclocross bike

Right here goes... I'm after a reasonably lightweight cyclocross bike that I can use also as a fixed wheel training bike when the mood takes me. I would ideally like the option to run gears sometimes to race Cyclocross on (will probably singlespeed as I get better). I have a maximum budget of 800 quid (on cyclescheme). I have done some research and it looks like there are only 2 possible options- Cotic Roadrat and Surly Cross Check.
My concern is that they are not light enough for carrying over obstacles.
has anyone raced either of these, or could anyone offer any other suggestions?

How about the Kinesis convert?
Get your LBS to build it to a price, and do it through C2W. That's my plan...Commute: Langster -Singlecross - Brompton S2-LX
Road: 95 Trek 5500 -Look 695 Aerolight eTap - Boardman TTe eTap
Offroad: Pace RC200 - Dawes Kickback 2 tandem - Tricross - Boardman CXR9.8 - Ridley x-fire0 -
That seems to be the perfect solution and I did look at it a while ago but for one thing, no canti brake bosses or disc attachments. The tripster (also from the decade series) has disc brake attachments but doesn't convert unfortunately. Thanks for your interest though.0

What about the Kinesis FiveT? I think they do a build for around £800. It has rack mounts, and canti bosses.0

I was sure the Convert frame I saw last week had front disc mount?
Sold at the weekend so it wasn't there any more...Commute: Langster -Singlecross - Brompton S2-LX

I thought disc brakes weren't allowed for cross ? Check that before you buy something that's not suited. Personally I doubt I would be arsed to swap between gears and fixed - its not gonna be a 10 min job ?0

Thanks for your responses. Just to clarify, I'm looking for primarily a cyclocross bike thats easily converted to a fixed wheel bike. Therefore, the Kinesis 5t is out as it has vertical dropouts. The Convert 2 is out as it doesn't have canti bosses or edisc mounts. The reason for wanting such a do it all bike is:
1. The need to get rid of a bike from the shed.
2. To race some cross races this season.
3. As the cross season is short, to use the bike as a fixed wheel trainer & commuter during the summer.
Although not a 10 min job to change around everything, its not that long to do it and disc brakes are allowed in all races except UCI registered elite ones.
The only bikes that seem to tick those boxes seem to be the Cotic Roadrat and the Surly Crosscheck. However I can't find anyone who has raced either in a cross race and was wondering if they really are up to the task.0 -
The main problem with running discs for fixed / single speed is the ability to adjust the brake after you've adjuster the chain tension - you can either eccentric BB, an eccentric disc mount (white Ind) or sliding drop-outs. If you can live with the weight, disc brakes are very good, particularly if planning to do off road or touring. Off course, if running fixed, you can dispense with the rear brake anyway - the front will be plenty powerful enoughMake mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0
