Basically handlebars are of 2 types. Traditional (curved then straight where your hands go or anatomic wich are less round but offer a different series of hand positions. Many of us prefer traditional bars eg Deda shallow drop Newton or 3t Rotunda. You can get Deda Newton Anatomic or 3t Ergosum which are anatomic. Other makes out there. The shallow drop Deda offer a smaller reach and less distance from the top of the bar to the bottom of the drops. Have a look at bikes in your LBS

I find the anatomic / ergo type bars offer a series of uncomfortable hand positions on the drops. I prefer the continuous curve type, so you can make small changes in hand position without encountering bumps or corners. Also worth considering a compact drop as mentioned by mrushton, you're more likely to use the drops since it's not as big a jump down from the tops or hoods.

There is also the continuous radius curve which isn't anatomic but isn't traditional. Bontrager mention it on their site
