Anyone know whether or not Boardman are releasing a new 2010 model of this bike?

Have contacted them but as of yet no reply.

Have just received my cycle to work voucher and dont want to buy the 2009 model if its likely to be superseded soon.

Thanks.

  • I doubt they'll be much change, in fact i suspect that spec will go down next year or price up as has been the case with other manufacturers. If you are able to get a '09 one then i'd snap it up. But then this is my own opinion :?

I would forget all about the Boardman personally. They're virtually unobtainable, over-rated and usually put together by long haired teenagers covered in zits.
Go somewhere else . It will be less frustrating in the end.

I spoke to them recently and was told they wouldnt be getting the 2010 bikes until at least may as they've only just got their act together with the 09 ones.

Last year I think they came out in /November so unlikely to be soon, given the fact that they can't get their act together this year.

Next years will probably be lower spec or higher priced so buy now if you want one.
  • I looked at the team carbon over the last couple of months, initially it was difficult to actually view a bike.
I wasn't over impressed with the varying quality of the carbon frame, several reported instances of problems with the wheels(?) and lastly, I wasn't a huge fan of the SRAM.

They do appear more available lately, there are a couple of London stores who have them in stock and yesterday at the Bike Hut Waterloo branch, they had the whole range available to view.

I managed to get a good deal on a different brand '09 bike, so went for that, Halfords/Boardman, seemed to think they were doing me a favour selling me a bike!

My local Halfrauds wont have any in stock till early next year, although they have the cheaper £650 model (cannot remember the name) in stock, but I wasnt impressed with that one, just looked cheap and not put together very well.

Out of interest what are the main differences between SRAM and Shimano as alot of people say they dont get on with SRAM, and as they are std fit on Boardmans it would be handy to know. At present my experience is with Shimano Sora only.

  • I'd agree you tend to find that new manufacturers put a higher spec on their first launch models, it is a bit like wine, if the vineyards are new they initially sell their better wine in cheaper bottles, then when everybody cottons on they start to replace it with the wine from the newer vines!

I understand the initial Boardman was offered with Dura Ace, have the 09 team carbon and have no complaints, the SRAM rival is helps makes the bike so lightweight and is essentially the same mechanics as SRAM red which was good enough for the podium winners in this years tour de france.

I had the same dilemma as you and only considered the Boardman after our scheme was restricted to Halfords ( although they will source you most other makes if you enquire ) If you are prepared to dismiss the sexier large brand names you can get a lot more for your money if you consider Ribble, Planet X or Focus which I did before i choose the Boardman which IMHO ,spec for spec was better value for money and lighter than the other ones - read the review it is very accurate. Don't read too much into the issue on the wheels - it is an exceptionally very fast lightweight bike and had my bike mate snob who has a Bianchi speechless over the geometry of the frame and eating his words when i left him standing
  • Thanks for all your help.

An 09 model arrived for me today so I'm having that and thankfullyI know the guy who's going to build it up for me, he looks after my mountain bike for me and he certainly knows what he's doing.

    Thanks again.
  • I'd watch out for the wheels on your Boardman, from what i've heard (on various forums etc) the spokes break regularly as the wheels are faulty.
    Ribble Gran Fondo
    Focus Black Hills
    Raleigh Chopper
  • Seems like a good decision not to wait - I've just read that they won't be releasing a 2010 range.

Next ones not due until 2011...

Good find. Someone on one of the MTB forums mailed Boardman a few days ago and got the same answer.
