... "At best, an infidel or two might be killed by the blast, and one or two others by flying debris as the cabin suddenly depressurizes". Im guessing the reporter doesnt know explosive decompression will kill everyone in the cabin in about 9 seconds? Thats a fairly laughable report tbh. Anyway, how much liquids does anyone realisticly need to take on a plane? Its hardly a massive burden on ones life, not being able to carry their shampoo on board.

I agree woth the above post - it's generally no burden although babies milk can be tricky as the ymake you drink it and it makes me heave!! Why can't they drink it anyway - surely that's more secure?

you managed to comprehensively miss the point - the point being that the 'made-up' threat continues to generate utter hysteria, while in the real world, real terrorists are still planting real bombs largely un-reported....

Love to see one of these fellas try to smuggle 600lbs of fertiliser in his hand baggage....

The made up threat? People have blown up planes before, I dont doubt with a couple of bottles of whatever they could do it again.

If people suffer from this 'utter hysteria' then that means the terrorists have won. I do not suffer from this, I aint gonna let fear change my way of life.

These real terrorists you speak of appear to be mental loners who do not represent anyone. Its comparable to someone opening fire in the middle of a crowded street. They dont do it to help anyone, they arent fighting for any real people. I aint scared of those people either.

Dunno if you know how a plane is made, its a couple of sheets of ally glued together with a bit of insulating foam between them. It doesnt take alot to blow them pieces, let alone 600lbs of fertiliser.

Softlad prey tell how do you know you're not wrong?

The Govt doesn't tell the public much about anything at all. My previous post involved CT raids and some quite worrying things got found. Never reported on the news though.

    Just a thought.

Q - How do you get everyone of your citizens to give you almost limitless powers of detention and do pretty much whatever you tell them to.

A - you scare the living sh*te out of them by making them believe there is a far greater threat out there than there really is by inventing some spuriously connected organisation with a head figure no-one knows or has seen for god knows how many years

Errrr, nope. Traffic early in my career.

Was on the Tactical Aid Unit - specialising in CT raid/search tactics. We did the raids and searching for what was Special Branch, now CTU.

Now a sergeant at Manchester Airport doing pretty much the same thing.

A friend of mine years back was on a tube-train when a bomb went off - back in the early 90s - it didn't look like anyone was hurt and she got evacuated - the train only had a few people on it - never got reported on the news though - she even phoned the BBC up to check - they thought she was a looney.

Happens quite often. Thing less impactive on the general public are often unreported too. During the Glasgow Rangers 'fans' riot in Manchester a girl got gang raped but didn't want it reporting officially. That never came out.

There was a very good documentary on BBC2 called The Power of Nightmares.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Power_of_Nightmares

I recommend getting hold of it - it does describe how al Qaeda was a product of american intelligence - also explains how al qaeda as such doesn;t exist - just a bunch of barely co-ordinated ismamist groups given license to commit atrocities by intial US support followed by a policy reversal that made them enemies.

Have you wondered why no-one seemed all that interested in actually capturing bin Laden in the end? He was a convenient bogey man, and that's all. He conveniently spouted hate and bigotry just when the US needed it - but what actual power did a dying man on a dialysis machine living in a cave actually have? And why did the US need to tell such huge and ridiculous lies to justify invading two countries?

There's a lot more to it than that - I would urge you to see it for yourself before resorting to your conspiraloon accusation cliches. I'm surprised you never mentioned tin hats.

Isn't that the point of terrorism though? That it causes terror? Now that a few extremely serious attacks have been successful (9/11, Madrid and London), people are, naturally, worried/concerned/scared/terrified.

It's difficult to blame the public for a reaction which is both expected and assumed as a result of terrorism.

The northern Ireland threat in my mind was less extreme than the current threat (in that the aim wasn't the body count), and the last big successful IRA attack in the UK was longer ago than the recent middle eastern/Islamic attacks.

It's not the actual threat that counts for the average person, but the perceived threat. After all, that's the medium term goal of the terrorists - to make the public frightened.
Note: the above post is an opinion and not fact. It might be a lie.

I am not saying that there is or isn't Al Qaeda, Elvis alive, faked moon landings etc etc etc.
    BUT...............

I am in favour of people questioning what they are told, what they read, what they see on TV etc etc. Too many people accept blindly the concept of "why would they lie to us"

History tells us that many, many, many governments have told any number of "untruths" in order to protect the general public from mass hysteria etc over the past 100 years or so.
Add to that tha fact that media manipulation, spin (call it what you will) is easier and more prevalent today than it's ever been and it's not difficult to see how an entire population can be conned without them knowing.

I don't know, you don't know, none of us knows.......................but don't just accept what we're told.

Only my opinion of course, but that's what forums are for !!

  • We only get to know what the government/security forces are prepared to let us know, and, they know a lot more about each of us than I think, we'd like to admit.

This so called war on terror is one only mankind will lose. People have different faiths and beliefs and both sides trying to destroy one another will not resolve issues at all.
