Being a Sheffield United fan is clouding my impartiality on this case, but in footballing terms it seems harsh.

Can anyone think of comparative cases in cycling, 'cos I for the life of me can't.

And what do we think of this case?

As a Preston North End fan who was at Bramhall Lane to see the cheating junkie help you to the play off final, I think we should launch legal action against Sheff Utd for some compensation. It worked for you guys...........

You cant think of a cyclist who failed a drugs test and got banned  ?

The OP is quite correct in stating that there are no comparative cases in cycling.

This is because a cyclist would have been banned for a minimum of two years, not a paltry nine months. This would apply whatever the reason he took the drug, no account is taken of whether he intended to enhance performance or it was in a cough mixture, it is the responsibility of the athlete to keep illegal substances out of his system.

  • And what do we think of this case?

I was led to believe he's been a bit of an off-the-pitch liability for the club at times, and certainly recall that he made the footy headlines a couple of years back for either (a) biting someone or (b) being bitten himself during a booze-fuelled night out in Halifax.

I wouldn't say he's been a liability, just as daft as a brush. I think he bit someone during a Christmas night out over whose curry belonged to whom, which I think illustrates the case magnificently.

I meant I couldn't think of a case of cough medecine etc being mistakenly ingested. As sh*t as it is that he's banned for 9 months, like people have said he's responsible for what goes in his body, so he's stupid to do it really.
  • As a fellow blade this was bad news. But to be honest it was his own stupid fault. Football players are so looked after they even get told what condom to wear whilst they are ploughing through some drunk prostitute as clubs are so scared about drug testing. No doubt he would have been told by the numerous club doctors what he can and cant take. So cough medicine my as3.
Only thing that concerns me is our response. In light of the West Ham/ Tevez thing will we take the moral high ground and sack him???

I think it's a deserved ban. Sheffield United are a joke. Like Dave Lakes said up near the top, Preston should sue for loss of revenue.

They won't have to mate. If they do, no doubt he'll sue etc and it'll al be a big mess.

His ban lasts until 2 games before the end of the season and he's in the last year of his contract. Better seeing the year out (unpaid I would assume) and then don't renew his contract.

It was his best mate who'd just revealed, at the height of an argument, he'd been sh@gging Paddy's wife for a couple of years.
