Does anyone have any knowledge of or is anyone currently doing Tabata training as part of their training routine?
Just thought I'd share it with anyone who's interested. I started it a month ago and the improvements in my riding and running have been amazing. Anyone else found good improvements from it?

NapD - legend, I might have known youd be doing it.
So I started riding in Nov last year, couldnt ride for sh*t, Im a swimmer, far too heavy. So I lost a stone and a half over xmas due to three doses of a nasty bowel infection...anyhow, some normal road training, some tabata done solely on foot and Ive seen some good results - last week did my first real decent ride, 120 miles in 5 hrs 42mins through the dales, hills way easier now... PS is that an ok time for a big lad?
Ill check out the links..cheers..0 -
I've done tabata running & found it quite simple to get my head round but I can't quite fathom how it works on a bike.
Am I starting in a mid gear to get the legs up to speed & then changing up, or staying in top with a slow cadence to start & building it and the speed up through the 20 seconds?
Also stood up, sat down, a bit of both?
BTW How bloody long is 20 seconds and how short is 10?0 -
I just do them in a mid gear with mid resistance, you are supposed to stop pedalling completely for the 10 off.
Initial few turns I'm stood to get the gear moving then spinning.
I've not actually experimented with low cadence high gear yet...0 -
I use tabata for both running and kettlebells with great results. I use HIIT for cycling. Don't know why I never thought of tabata for cycling.... something new to tryRoad: Felt AR0, Di2

make sure you put some cushions round the side of the rollers...and wear a helmet, face guard and pads!0

I've been doing them after spotting sir MapD's thread and. Can't do 8 reps yet but I am up to 5 or 6 now. I have an elite turbo trainer so I can only set my power by changing gear, and I use the top gear for the 20 seconds, after about 10 sessions my power on the trainer has gone up from about 650 watts to about 800, I agree that you want to only do it on a turbo! I did have someone look at me and laugh so I let them have a go, they felt sick on the second rep...0
