Edinburgh / Lothians Cycle Buddy?

Trying to get fit enough to join a local club (possibly the West Lothian lot), but currently stuck at a regular 22 mile / 90 minute run on my own.
Anyone out there in Edinburgh (or Lothians) interested in occasional road runs to get to 30 / 40 miles?
Apologies if this is in wrong section, couldn't find anywhere more appropriate.
Ta,
Roger.

Hi there,
The Edinburgh Road Club let newcomers tag along on their runs to see if they like riding in groups at a decent speed. I know a couple of guys who started off this way only last year and are now proper roadies: 10 mile time trials, races, the lot.
That might be a route for you instead of going on runs on your own, plus you'll get exposure to being in chain gangs and all the other stuff.
Hope that helps.0 -

Hi Roger
Come out with the West Lothian Clarion and you wont get left behind and there is a good bunch.I started going out with them before the club actually started and I was shattered after 20 miles at 12mph  so there is nothing to worry about with fitness levels....10 out last saturday with a couple of newbies.
Meet at 8.00 at the Korean War Memorial on saturdays. There is parking in Bathgate or right next to the memorial itself.
Cheers

I think it depends on your average speed really, finding people with similar averages is the key! Mines is around the 15MPH mark, would be good to have some company for road rides as I try to get my distances/average speed up2010 Specialized Competition Secateurs, hell yeh0 -
What sort of times would you propose? Might be interested myself actually. With 2 small kids on the go it's difficult to even think about tagging along with the ERC on the weekends.0

tnx all.
Given the fair forecast for the weekend, I think I'll (probably) give the Clarion outing a go on Saturday - anyone else interested?
I can (just) keep up 15mph over my 22 mile run (Longniddry - coast road - Nth Berwick - Kington - Drem - Longniddry) and hopefully this will see me over 30 miles or so in a group.
leither - there's a similar run but back via Whitekirk and East Linton which takes it to 30 miles; target would be to do it in 2 and a wee bit hours
tyax - thanks, got your PM, but I can't see where to access it again. Help!

anyone think a match making scheme for cycle buddies would work for those who don't want to join a club :
internet fame and fortune await me with this amazing idea!
Maybe not, maybe I should drink less Guinness and keep foolish ideas to myself0 -
It's not at all a bad idea, I've been thinking along the same lines since a colleague told me about something she uses called Jog Scotland. From what I'm told, they sort of "match you up" with people with similar running capabilities, and provide contact details. Then you nag each other when one seems like they're about to bottle out or start making excuses2010 Specialized Competition Secateurs, hell yeh0
