Newbie looking at gettin a hard tail

Hi guys, I've had various mountain bikes and a few bmx's over the years but nothing decent so to speak (my piranha bmx is the best bike I’ve had) as they were mostly when I was in my early teens. I'm planning on getting into biking again and have a few mates who have recently got decent bikes and will be going for rides with them (mostly light dirt/jump and maybe a beginner’s downhill type course)
I have been looking about on eBay the last few weeks and have seen a few decent bikes go just outside of my budget (which is as small as possible). Today I noticed a Shogun Gatecrasher 200 (full disc) in the local paper which needs a bit of a "tidy" as the seller described it and I have read a few posts on this site where a few people really don't like the bike.
The bike is for sale at £60 which is cheap for almost any bike and I will just be using it lightly at first as a means of getting into mountain biking and then maybe looking at upgrading components over time as and when I can afford them/need them (this will include a new frame late down the line)
What I am asking then is if this bike is in ok condition and doesn't need too much work doing to get it fully working, will this bike be suitable for my plans and is it worth it or are there other bikes about that would be better for not too much more money?
Also, what would you recommend being the first upgrades?

Sorry in a word NO.
and i would say the frame is maybe the best part."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Heavy, pseudo jump bike, and certainly not worth upgrading.0
