Anyone else out there suffered from numb toes after a ride.Been out today for an hour or two and after about an hour started to "not" feel my toes and when the feeling came back it was painful pins 'n' needles. Anybody know of a reason for this? shoes, pedals??
Any feedback would be nice.

Wasn't particularly cold today (at least not where I was, so unless you were riding in sandals I imagine it would be pressure and not temperature?
It might be you need some bigger shoes, but maybe you could just try loosening your shoes, or just wearing a slightly bigger pair of socks. Has it happened before? If its just the once, don't worry about it unless it happens again.0 -
I had this when I started using SPD's.
I found that I simply had the velcro straps done up too tight.
I do them looser now and the problem has never returned.
Worth a shot !I ride therefore I am0 -

Do you ever suffer from back problems? Might sound like a strange question, but i have had lower disc ( back, not brakes) problems coming and going for years, and i often go for some physio treatment. I was asked once by my physio if i ever get numb toes during exercise, as he sufferers from the same injury's. I also often get a numb big toe while riding, which according to my physio is connected to my back problems ( some thing to do with nerves apparently)..0 -
Some good points there guys thanks for that...No I wasn't wearing desert welly's and anyone who does at ANY time deserves to be flogged in public with a large rotting fish!!!!
It was indeed my first time on SPD's too, maybe not used to the smaller platform yet, but will try slackening off my shoes a bit next time out. Strangely enough I also suffer from back problems as well got arthritis in my lower back and hips(only 41 as well), never one to let a little bit of pain stop me riding though(excpt for when I fractured my cocxyx a few years back)....Few things to think about though......will try some insoles and slacken shoes off a bit next time and take some more mega drugs too methinks.Project Finished....On-one Inbred..

It's usually shoes too tight or cleat position. Although the general advice is to have your cleat so the ball of your foot is in-line with the axle I usually find it more comfy for the toes if the axle is slightly further back (i.e. closer the the heel) but only like 0.5-1cm. Not sure why, maybe just allows the blood to circulate better.0

I'd agree with the shoes being too tight. I had the same problem and it was the velcro strap that was too tight. With the velcro strap slightly looser i've never had the problem again.Specialized Rockhopper '07

I agree with nferrar.
