  • Generally it's placed on "wear areas" like under cables etc. where they do/may make contact with the frame whilst riding.
I've also seen it used to protect down tubes, across the top tube and in some extreme cases on the front of the lower forks to prevent stone damage.
  • Around chainstays, unles you are using a protector.
My bike`s plastered in the stuff.I did the crank arms too.

  • I once saw a classified for a carbon Scott that had the whole frame covered in 'copter tape! There weren't many takers.

As Raymond says - no need to go overboard, just do the wear points under cables, etc. maybe the front of the downtube.

    Thanks everyone.

Chain stay has a protector but it looks rubbish so may peel off and put this on.

I don't want to go overboard with it but I also want t keep bike pristine.

Anyone know if it can peel off easily to replace after time? Or if it will need to do so even...

Also, does the dirt collect around the edges, if you get me?

Neoprene chainstay protectors work well, and cut down on noise as the mech and chain hits it.

The copter tape keeps in good condition, and can be removed with a hairdrier.

    Cool. Thanks supersonic

Have worse things to deal with at the moment. Just went out to dust the bike ready to put the tape on and noticed where my chain has been having problems falling off and getting stuck it has fcuked up the frame around the crank area (another one of my posts about my new bike). Deep gauges. Not very impressed.

Hmmmm, that does sound like a bit more than the bedding in process. Chains can drop, but sounds like an incorrectly set front mech. I'd have that looked at (or take a look yourself - see park tools website on how to set the front mech. May just be the turn of a screw that is needed.)
