Depends on what kinda family you're talking about. There isn't much in the way of seating, unless you grab a seat in one of the little (expensive) cafes. There's always plenty of stuff to look at, from the new bikes and components, to new clothes, lights, everything. There's also stalls from things like the police and ambulance guys who ride bikes, they can be quite interesting.
Also torq and a few others usually have a ton of their energy stuff out, so if you've got kids and they're getting a bit tired, or you just want to see them bouncing off the walls, you can go there.
I'm not sure about this year, but they usually have some kind of trials/bmx/jump show, that is worth watching. Don't expect seats though. Also expect to have to have kids on your shoulders if they want to see.
For the cyclist, there's plenty of interesting things to see. I'd probably make straight for the new 2010 gear that I'm interested in at the moment, then go and find the shimano stall to have a proper go on the Di2 stuff - only got a short time on it last time. I'd then go and drool over spesh stuff - (sl3, anyone?) - they usually have the biggest stall right in the middle. There's also loads of stuff to do with holidays and award schemes - repair, guiding, etc.
Also garmin will probably have a stall again, so if you're interested in seeing them in action (sort of) it might be worth having a look. Tons of competitions to enter, almost from ever stall. Also usually some very interesting people hiding around the place, got chatting to a guy who'd cycled around the world once or twice.
Also there will probably be an indoor dirt track (don't get excited - health and safety have calmed it down extremely) to try out some new bikes, and there will be a place for younger kids to test bikes, and a commuter track style thing, to test out commuting and road bikes.
Wont be going this year, though. Think I'm in Afan for the day its on. Not too bothered, really.0 -

In essence it's a long day at the Cycle Show
As RealMan says, seating is sparse, last year the only food available was Pizza, small, tasteless and expensive pizza at that.
KTM stole the show in 2008 IMO, their stand was amazing. There were also some good exhibition rides too, the BMX and DJ guys were impressive. The entire Atherton clan appeared on stage too and gave a lighthearted and entertaining interview
It is a good day out..0 -
i went to the snowboarding and sking one a couple of years back got a phew whitelines jjumpers and stuff for free was well worth it as i got some pretty nifty gear from there, they had a show and all but it was not the best it was a quick low down on a 180 spin on a snow board0

The only things you get for free at the Cycle Show are:
Human traffic
Decals
Brochures
Eye candy galore
A wish list sure to annoy the bank account0
