Loads of people do - they have the advantages that they are double sided, easier to clip in and the shoes are much easier to walk in.0

I have some spd shimano M520's on my spesh Tricross.... which spends probably 70% of its time on road.... as I wear mtb shoes in case going gets impossible off road with the tyres i have on.... Performs fine0

Yep loads do it as stated previously. Nothing wrong with it, just upgrade to proper road pedals when you're ready. The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle. ...Stapp’s Ironical Paradox Law

Yeah, I do! But then I commute on my road bike and the SPDs are prob better for constant clipping in/out in traffic, and obviously MTB shoes have grips so you can walk easier without falling on your bum. Good for popping into Tesco on the way home. Just get MTB shoes that look like road shoes. The cycling fashion police will then be after you - I compound the heinous crime by teaming MTB shoes with black socks
I did the Action 100 ride from Bristol - London last Sunday (actually 120 miles, but they didn't tell anyone!), and I did start to get numb feet after about 90. I've heard that road shoes might alleviate this problem due to the greater contact area, but unless you're cycling silly mileage SPDs should be fine.0 -
yep i use them all the timeBianchi. There are no alternatives only compromises!
I RIDE A KONA CADABRA -would you like to come and have a play with my magic link?0 -
Yep. M520's plus specialized Taho mtb shoes. Great for commuting on my road bike. On longer rides I do get numb toes though..

I use them on my commuter bike, allthough mine are ancient and are only single sided Shimano SPD pedals.0
