Hey all
I've been inspired by all your build posts and decided that my first "proper" mountain bike needed some TLC.
The bike has a bit of history, having been stolen back when i lived in manchester, and amazingly was recovered by the police (who actually managed to catch the criminal aswell) a year and a half after.
So i've stripped her back and plan to rebuild her with a few upgrades as everything is low end shimano.
The plan is to get her powder coated locally for a bargain price and then rebuild her with a mix a deore parts. Just need to decide on the colour, i'm torn between pure white or a lime green with white forks.
I'll keep posting photos as and when, the forks are being sprayed tonight.

Green and white it is. Off to the powder coaters tomorrow after taking the eldest off to her first day at pre school.
Managed to get the forks and rims resprayed white on sunday. The wife asked me whether is it was to aid reflectivity in the dark. I just agreed 8)
Does anyone know of any decent places that you can get decals made up? Not many places around in the middle of the peaks.0 -
What decals are you after? I'm trying to find somewhere that can make me some one off stickers, however nowhere will do it in small quantities or for the size i'm after
If you find anywhere, let me know!It takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.

Just picked the frame up from the powder coaters. Must admit they have done an A1 job. Colour is as good as i expected.
If anyone wants to know where i got it done give these guys a call.

great job how much do they charge for powder coating a frame?0

As the sun was shining on saturday, i made hay and built her up. Just need to get a new chain, cables and still to get the brakes. Quite pleased so far.
The chainset is just a temporay one till my slx comes for my FS marin. So I'll be putting my blaze on this one.
The frame cost me £35 for a full strip down and then powder coated. Just finishing off my decals in illustrator.0 -
nice one i'm thinking of having my bike stripped down and powder coated in a similar colour, it's green already but it's covered in little chips and stuff...0

Just have to wait till the weekend to fit them now.0 -

managed to get a few hours yesterday to finish off the bike. had to put the old chainset and chain back on as lack of funds. But looking forward to going out this afternoon for a quick spin over chinley churn.

If you're still looking for stickers, contact Gil @ www.thecycleshed.co.uk
Gil does lots of very good work for the retro brigade over on Retrobike.co.uk, and IIRC he also does some work for a couple of manufacturers too
I think he's on his hols at the mo, so he might not reply straight away.0 -
Very nice build you've done thereNow that we are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak and not to please ourselves. ROMANS 15:10
