Insurance for Bikes in Student Property Help?!?!

In a few weeks I will be moving into a rented house for my second year at Uni. With me, I will be taking two bikes, a road bike, and a mountain bike (soon to be replaced by a second road bike).
The problem I have is in getting contents insurance. Because they are fairly high value, they are not often included as "contents" and because they are only ever going to be left in my room (ie. not locked up against a lampost somewhere in town), I think its a bit unnecessary to get an expensive bicycle insurance that covers leaving it in alleyways.
So, I was wondering whether anyone has any suggestions as to companies they have used or solutions to this.
Thanks

Yeh, sorry, I should have mentioned, M+S wont cover me as I will be living in rented shared accommodation.

  • Co-op covered me when I was in the same situation. Even paid out when I got robbed!

Endsleigh are great for students. I've got my road bike and MTB in my room in my student house and they are both covered on my contents insurance. Only added like £2 to the quote for the whole year! My laptop insurance ended up costing me more than that and its worth less than the bikes!!!

Since i'm in a similar situation, i will try to keep the topic alive. I also got interested in Endsleigh, since it seems to get god reviews around, but did anyone actually had to deal with them actually paying out?

  • not been with endsleigh for a good few years now but had no problems with the level of cover or premiums, luckily never needed to clain so cant help on that side.

I'm with Legal and General now and have made my bikes bespoke items with usage and liability insurance equivalent to a cycleguard scheme. all in all it costs me ~£80 per year extra on my contents premium but my cheapest standalone bike insurance quote was £112 for all but identical cover.

What bugs me is the cover of 'theft of parts'. I heard many companies cover the theft of a whole bike but not separate bits and pieces.
