I'm in Fife too, and the Fife Flurry does sound interesting, but i'm not so sure my 5" full suss will work so well on a 100k road ride0

howdy folks,
sorry for the delayed reply, the guy at the local shop mentioned tentsmuir?? Just of the water I was told, is that any good ? Not that it matters like considering my skill level is pretty much zero at the moment.
Currently on the look out for a bike rack as I dont wanna be taking of the wheels everytime I want to go somewhere further afield.
Dont think my arse would survive 10k let alone 100k. cheers for the offer though.
Kinda off topic but what sort of gear, clothes wise should I be looking at ??0 -
Tentsmuir Forest is a good place to ride for beginners. Its pretty big, and due to it being a beach forest, its also very flat. There is a vast network of fire-roads criss-crossing the forest, most are hard packed gravel, some are broken tarmac. There is also lots of single track that can be fun, as they weave up and down and around the forest planted on the sand dunes closer to the beach areas. But be careful as there is many walkers with dogs and often horses using these tracks. There is 3 common places that u can park up and enter the forest. Tayport beach, Kinshaldy Beach carpark or Leuchars. The Kinshaldy Beach carpark is £1, and it has a closing time where they close the gates. Tayport beach is the best place to park i would say.
Clothing is all down to personal preference, and more importantly down to the weather conditions . I would not go out and spend a ton of cash on Mountain Bike specific clothing until you feel you want to pursue the sport more. Except in the worse days in winter, i always wear shorts. layers is the best way to go for the top half. It means you can add or remove as you need. A cheap packable water-proof jacket is often a good thing to carry in your pack on those days that the weather looks changeable. I have been saved by mine a few times..0
