1. After reading countless light threads on here and after going down the "torch strapped to handlebar" route (and not liking it) I'm considering getting an Exposure Maxx Daddy for my mostly unlit, 7 mile, country lane commute. I'm just a little concerned that it's going to set the retinas alight of the 2-3 oncomming tractor drivers and nettle-chewing locals in rusting pickups. Can anyone else share their experience of this particular light?

2. There's no pretty way to put this so I'll just dive straight in: my helmet always smells all smeggy. I'm sure I remember reading on here of either a specific helmet or a specific brand with detachable straps - can someone enlighten me? I know I can hand-wash and use bicarb but I can't be bothered and would prefer to chuck them in the machine with the pads in one of those zipped bags women use for washing stockings, suspenders, gimp masks, wait a minute ...

Any help will be gratefully received.

I think that wins an award for today, this week and probably this year...

I've got a NiteRider light which is very bright, but nowhere near the amount of Lumens that the Maxx Daddy puts out.

Although it's my trail light, I use it for commuting in London. Haven't had an issue with using it yet, as it gets you seen. Only thing I find is when you have it in Strobe mode, I occasionally find when using it late at night that some people make comments about it being a rave!
  • I'm guessing I'll only use the strobe mode in dark daylight, use "maxx" most of the time and "ride" when I see a tractor. With all the wildlife walking out in front of me (ducks, rabbits, deer and a suicidal male peacock) I'm gonna need something bright.
  • I always recommend two lights front and rear (4 in total), you can have one on permanent and one on flash (front and rear) and when you need the extra light, have both the front on permanent full.

I've got a cateye single shot plus paired with a Hope vision 2 - when they're both on full it's like daylight :D

  • Way ahead of you

I'm going to pair it with an Exposure Joystick Maxx 2 for the front, and at the rear will be a Smart 1/2 watt on flashing, an Exposure Redeye and a Redeye micro. Quite a pricey setup, just under £450, but I feel like treating myself.
