I recently purchased a Scott Aspect 20 for trail riding in Spain, my first time out this week and I recieved one puncture in my front tyre and 3 in the back from tiny thorn needles. Anyone no how I can aliminate the punctures, I thought about by 1.5mm downhill inners but maybe I should invest in some new tyres, I currently have Scott Ozon. Anyone have any suggestions?

  • Go tubeless, best thing I ever did. Softens up the ride and no more punctures in 8 months of use!

+1 for tubeless. Don't replace the tyres unless you're unhappy with them for other reasons.
  • cheaper and less hassle option (although +1 for tubeless) is make a small nick in your innertube. Syringe some Stans No-tubes into the tube then assemble the whole thing and pump the tyre up. The latex will seal the nick you made and now you have a latex filled tyre. small thorns will no longer bother you. If your tubes have removable cores (Schwalbe tubes have) then you can put the latex in through there instead.

but tubless with latex in is the bomb.

If riding an XC race bike is like touching the trail,
then riding a rigid singlespeed is like licking it
... or being punched by it, depending on the day
  • This is the other option if you are running presta valved tubes, without removable cores:http://www.roadcyclinguk.com/news/article/mps/uan/3112
