My other half bought a set of these FSA Carbon Flats from CRC. Thinking what a deal reduced to £15 they came this morning and they are not exactly whats described on the website.

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=41422

I got them out of the box and thought 'they're heavy' Turns out they are a steel bar with a carbon wrap. Not exacly what they have advertised on the website. Ok I know they were cheap but surely that's a bit of a grey area where trades description comes in?

They look nice and she will probably end up keeping them but If anyone has looked at them and fancied them be warned they are not the deal you think they are.

  • There is no pic or product description on them - I admit the description does seem to indicate carbon fibre. Thing is quick search and trip to FSA website, they dont make an OS-180?! only an XC-180 What are they then?

I know, after opening the package this morning I was a bit shocked so got onto Google and FAS's website and found nothing.

    Here's a pic.

A nice lookin pair of bars.

I phoned CRC and they admitted that they were carbon wrap and started to waffle on about it all and at that point I switched off. They said send them back.

The only reason i posted this up was so that no-one else fell for the same deal and was dissapointed :?

yes I thought they were carbon wrap from reading about the riser handlebars on the CRC website:

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=11583

Looks like they just haven't had the description put on the bars you have ordered. I have had issues with CRC sending out items which don't quite match the description before. I think this is just a price you have to pay for buying stuff cheap. At the end of the day they refund your postage and they seem quick to process refunds so you haven't lost anything.

I didnt see the risers mentioned. Well she came home and flipped the bars are going back!

She also ordered a carbon FSA seatpost with a layback. The one they sent was carbon, but it was inline. The lay back one she had ordered has vanished from the website and only the inline ones were left! I think there's a bit of dodgy dealing going on at CRC!

  • you bought bars that had no description + you never email CRC to confirm.... who's fault is that?

Oh yeah didnt think of that!

Next time I order some some carbon bars I will email them and make sure they are Carbon, and that they are handlebars and not chocolate bars, You never know do you. :?

That's an eye opener, but fsa to blame really, not crc, who are excellent in my experience.

I thought the majority of FSA carbon stuff is carbon wrap?

I don't see the problem? It's still carbon fibre...

lol you must be joking !

you buy carbon for the weight loss and the bling factor, otherwise it's like having gold plated brass jewelrey :-)

Actually its quite often to give added stiffness.

OK I missed that bit. Definitely steel? That does seem unusual.

I think it's only the K-Force range that's actually carbon, anything else from FSA is carbon wrap or carbon skinned (same thing, but actually a structural top layer as opposed to just bling)

I have a set of the CSI bars and they're very nice, seem a good bit more comfortable than my old bars, not sure how much the carbon is to do with that, but they look good and do the job. Oh, and yes they were dirt cheap too.

Are they the ass-kicking, crime fighting, bad-ass ninja's that are on TV? I bet nothing escapes your CSI bars... :P

still not carbon though is it? bit of a stitch up really.
  • Carbon and Pro in the name, misleading to be honest even though they have it written on them. Guess it's a poorly named product that has been poorly advertised. But the OS180 tends to give it away a little as FSA usually use the weight as an indication. Buy a pair of Easton carbon bars, better all round anyway
  • but...who buys something without a proper description anyways! It says "description coming soon" so surely the most sensible thing would have been to ask in the 1st place.

Quite a few of the FSA bars are carbon wrapped alu... along with a few other manufacturers.

Probably adds a little extra shock absorption and strength.

The point is, it is still carbon fibre.
