What has F1 got to do with cycling you might ask? Well apart from giving us carbon fibre bike frames some bloody tempting circuits around the world I wouldn't mind giving a go.

Think Spa-Francorchamp, Hockenheim and Nurburgring to name a few.

Anyone else want to join me?

I was thinking that on sunday, I'd love to ride spa, at least some of it is public road (or was) so you could in theory. If you're organising a trip, I might be interested :D

There is an endurance cycling event at the Nurburgring, the full loop.

Monaco has always tempted me, Laguna Seca looks fun with the corkscrew corner as does Mount Panorama in the Aussie V8 Supercars.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Ooooh, riding the Ring. But somehow it wouldn't be right for me to cycle it before driving it tho'. Once a petrolhead ...

    ps.I have ridden Kyalami - awesome.[/code]

Only the old course I believe is still public road. I think the remaining public bits of the current course were closed a few years ago. Hockenheim has been ruined now but the Nordschleife would be a nice ride.

On bicycles, Clermont Ferrand would be pleasant, the Monza banking interesting and Reims atmospheric. Rouen would be good too if you know where to look!

No worries about PF visits there.

Mount Panorama ..ooh that takes me back. You have to drive at the speed limit there too as the local cops have an almost permanent presence on the straight just waiting for Bathurst wannabees' 8)

Good call on Mount Panorama that would be fun. There would be too much traffic in Monaco you'd have to do it on a race weekend.

Laguna Seca would be good, and Cadwell Park at the other end of the spectrum. Maybe the A1 ring? That had some nice swoopy sections I think.

I read about the Rad am Ring last year sometime. Would be awesome to ride the Nordschleife, even if cycling it would be slightly sacrilegious.

Played enough Forza 2 to know it like the back of my hand, although friends have told me that doesn't come anywhere near to doing the elevation changes justice.
  • The Vuelta this year kicked off at Assen motorbike track although it looked pretty flat and boring. I suppose Indianapolis could be viewed as a massive velodrome?

I went to silverstone at the weekend, what a dull peice of tarmac, great for F1, slower things, not so much.

I reckon Laguna Seca would be way horrible. You would be going into that corkscrew at a snails pace having climbed the hill up to it.

Donington is my favourite UK circuit on a motorbike.....I can manage a 1:45 ish lap there - about what a Motogp bike does in the wet. Thats on the 2.5 mile circuit. I am on about 1:14 (best lap ever!) on the smaller circuit missing out the Melbourne loop.

Love to try it on a bicycle.....!

That, my friend, is the appeal.

We should start a campaign for access.

You can do the Australian track at any time, it's a public road around Albert Park in Melbourne. I did it every morning on my way to work :) In fact for a couple of weeks before the GP it's closed to traffic and you can cycle around it properly, I even roller bladed it one year.

Talk about a pot-hole free commute, that sucker was re-surfaced every year!!

Its called the rad am ring, and the real nutters do the run-am-ring. I did laps during the 2008 and 2009 24 hour races - essentially you pay 20 euros and can lap as many times as you like during the actual race itself. Each lap has 1000ft of climbing, it's an amazing weekend and a beautiful place to ride a bike. I managed four laps this year with semi-slicks on a hardtail MTB. I've also done over 100 laps as a driver as well, I should add :)

Apparently Jan Ulrich rode it this year

The first and last bits of the C+ sportive were on the circuit this year, was very nice riding. Silky smooth tarmac, felt quite surreal.
