not sure where to post this.
i wear tinted glasses when i ride xc to keep the crud outa my eyes, but they always mist up, has anyone discoverd a way to stop this happening ot to minimise it?
maybe i should make some little electronic mini wipers lol
i know you can buy stuff for diving masks, but does it actually work?

Rub a tiny amount of washing up liquid on the lenses then polish off.Been doing it years including on my Motorbike visors when i was a courier.Works better than and is much cheaper than the stuff in shops.0

When out cycling spit rubbed on the inside is better than nothing.
I had loads of problems with mine but never found a true solution - I had laser eye surgery and now I'm 20/20!!! Otherwise contacts.'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.0 -
Washing up liquid works well... Nikwax Visorproof is the dog's danglies though, it's only a fiver for a bottle that lasts forever and it doesn't just stop fogging, it also helps make water run off- very good stuff. And long lasting tooUncompromising extremist0

A good quality wax is good as well, though i've heard of people using pledge, as said washing up liquid is good as well.
My rydons would mist up but only if it was those really fine droplets you get so the tart in me bought oakleys hydrophobic treatment kit, it's around £18 but it gives the glasses the same coating that they use on all their glasses.
Seems to work quite well, it's not a permanent barrier though so will need a spray when it needs it.The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

 18pound buys you a lot of Fairy!
+1 for the washing up treatment. I make a little cup of very soapy solution, hot water then pour it over the lens and leave to evaporate instead of rubbing as I find it smears and, trying to rub the smear out is a never ending cycle...0 -
Go faster. Flowing air stops them misting/un-mists them.
And if you cant go faster, stick them in your helmet or pocket or something. If you're going slow enough for them to mist, you probably don't need to worry about stuff going in your eyes.
At least, that's what I do.0 -
+1 For washing up liquid or just rub soap on them and wipe it off.0

Some of us wear prescription glasses so sticking them in our helmet or pocket isn't really an option.
I've heard shaving foam and toothpaste can be used in a similar fashion to washing up liquid.'Hello to Jason Isaacs'0 -
I would be careful with the toothpaste, It can be abrasive. It's not a ornament, so ride It0

Good point, but someone here mentioned laser eye surgery, +1 for that, people I've talked to who have had it have been very satisfied. Don't delay with it, its for the rest of your life after all.0 -
For some of us(me)Laser eye treatment isn't an option,it can't cure my condition  So i have no choice but to buy both glasses and prescription riding glasses.I used to find mine tended to mist on climbs when you're both slower and sweating more.0

i have mixed up a solution in how water and poured it over them, they smell of fairy now and hopefully ile be able to see enough that i wont be riding like a fairy.
someone suggested putting them in my pocket lol, its my eyes im protecting not the inside of my pocket, at cwmcarn that would be fine cos its all up then down (in fact this is what i do at cwmcarn with them anyway), but everywhere else it would just be a pain in the butt taking them outa pocket and having to stop all the time.
thanks for all the replies tho!Dont look at it-ride it! they are tools not f*cking ornaments

I can't believe that 2 of you sound like "i dont wear glasses now i had surgery"
I wont ride without some eye protection. if they steam i just pull em down to the end of my nose and deal with it at the top of the climb.
Not trying to start anything, just an observation.0 -
I have good eyesight (don't wear glasses etc normally) but when riding I think wearing glasses is essential to keep the dust/pollen/mud/rain/flies (and if you're lucky sun) out of your eyes...
My glasses only steam up either if I have been working hard and come to a stop (including at traffic lights on the way to work) or if it's raining a lot, where they steam up good and proper, I guess for the same reason car windscreens do (lots of damp air about and colder on the outside of the lens than the inside). Do any of the suggested treatments work well for more than just light perspiration? The Nikwax stuff looks good but it seems to be advertised more as helping rain bead up on the outside rather than stopping condensation on the inside of the lens?0 -
Using the washing up liquid my glasses never mist up.Were we in the Yorkshire Dales and out in heavy rain a couple of weeks ago for over 4 hours...clear lenses 8)0

Ah, that's because it's mainly a motorbike thing, if you're worried about condensation on a motorbike visor you get a pinlock or similiar and double-glaze it so it's not such a selling point for them. But it does work well on condensation, honest! For cycling the rain repellant thing is a bonus.Uncompromising extremist0 -
OK cool. I've just done the washing up liquid thing and will see how I get on. If it doesn't work I'll buy some of the Nikwax stuff.0

I find wearing my glasses a little bit away from my face to let some air circulate prevent misting, oh and wear oakleys and replace the lenses when they start to degrade.-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
