Riding to work today and wind didnt seem to bad so decided to extend my commute an extra 15 miles. Then i realised how bad the wind was and took a corner, only to be hit by a gush of wind (was in the country side) and skidded, stayed clipped in (i think) full force of the fall going on my left side and my shifter was quite badly bent.

luckily dont seem to have done much damage to bike as it landed on me but also think i hit my head :( as few marks on helmet and now getting bad headache

got some nice bruises and side is killing but dont think broke anything

is this what i can expect in bad whether?? first year riding road bike, do i just need to take more care on corners. Tyres were pumped up this morning so that not issue

hopefully be ok riding home tonight

You should go to hospital if you think you hit your head, and are getting a headache. Best to be on the safe side with that sort of thing.

At the very least make sure somebody can keep an eye on you tonight, in case you've got a concussion.

I'm always weary of the wind here - anything over 35mph isnt worth bothering with if its in gusts. Wind and rain together makes for a challenging combo - makes me wonder if a recumbant trike is the way to go for those kinds of conditions.

So yeah, just slow it down in the bad conditions is the gen'ral rule. If the headache gets worse see a doc, same for blurry vision, flashes of lights etc. The NHS site lists the symptons of concussion just incase you want to check, though it could just be bruising.

One time I was cycling home into what felt like the almightiest head wind. I was approaching a junction and thought to myself I'd best change down for when I stop, at which point I realised I was already in my lowest gear (double 44-24 I think). When I eventually got home and turned on the tv the news was all about the gales hitting the coast.

Headwind gusting to over 40mph here. Certainly took a pounding on the way home - at a couple of places I was struggling to keep the bike over 11 mph....

So wet, certain parts of my body are still numb from the rain and wind.....

And so windy, even going downhill I was only doing 15mph due to the wind, but then along came a bus so I hid/drafted behind that!

I call it the hands of the wind on your shoulders. Its as if some invisible force is saying "where do you think you're going!?"

I suppose the benefits of the drops on the kona means I can get below some of it. Last week I was hit by a side wind and found myself being lifted up off the ground by an inch or so. One second I was cycling, the next I was flying sideways.

glad its not just me then

    Cheersfor the replies

headache not too bad now but i woke up about 4am and the bruise has come out lovely on my ribs and all my back just feels really stiff. also nice bruises come out on my arm and can hardly move it :(

When i was cycling the rest of the way to work yesterday i was struggling to get anything over 10mph

Was pleasing to see that two people stopped at the junction to ask if i was ok, my pride made me say "yea im fine thanks" but i wasnt lol. one was even a white van man.

When i continued to work i saw some bloke trying to race me and inevetabily he hit traffic so i caught back up with him less than a minute later, so i just gave friendly advice to take it easy on corners especially round the lanes as wind can be unpredictable, his reply was " dont you think i know that" some people!

Bike seemed ok last night coming home, as i say luckily the frame never hit the floor at all, was just me and the braker levers / shifters that took the force

good job im off work today
