Oh yeah, the Vuelta's back in Spain... average speed for the first 2 hours = 37.5 km/h.

3 riders didn't start this morning. Chris Horner, broken wrist, Robert Kiserlovski, broken collarbone and Charly Wegelius, plain knackered.

6 riders up the road. Aitor Hernandez (new KOM leader), José Antonio Lopez Gil, Julien el Fares, Matthe Pronk. Serafin Martinez and Julian Sanchez. Gap is 3 and a half minutes with 100 km to go.

Very hot, very slow.

  • Harmon has said that Horner is joining Team Zimmer.
Odd colour sky they have in Spain.
Very tranquilo....zzziesta time, recovering from their Belgian bash.

Classic Vuelta, innit. Bit of a crash for Tosatto... must have nodded off.

Wegelius can't have his 3 GT prize now, pulling out that early it's just not cricket

  • This is more like it...

Lets see if Farrar knows how to sprint when he is outside of Belgium. I would expect Bennati to be better.

It'll be interesting to see how Farrar goes. I've heard one account his legs just aren't working but that only means he'll win today and my PTP pick of André 3000 Big Boi Greipel comes 11th.

Now I know where all that olive oil comes from.

As said above, this is classic Vuelta stuff. Arid terrain, a doomed breakaway and languid TV direction. I have it on at work but it's not distracting, the only thing making me revisit the corner of my screen is that I'm waiting to spot one of those cut-out bull silhouettes on a hilltop.

  • I just tuned it on saw there's 30k to go, so will put it back on in half an hour or so lol
  • Well fast.
I've had an unforced siesta, listening to Sean. Woke up to see Rabo on the front.
Oscar must fancy getting rid of some of the competition on this little hill.

Gilbert attacks, no surprise. 8km to go... never gonna work.

    Allez.

  • I'm liking the look of these super smooth roads.

  • Fat legs won again. Took 5m out of Bennati in the last 50m.

    Easy. Gold jersey, too?
  • Much as expected. A couple of the sprinters are well ahead of the rest.
Farrar needs a rest. Freire picks Farrar's wheel.
At least Bennati finally showed up.
Peloton split down to post Belgium fears?

Again a messy, unorganized lead out, but at least now producing the usual suspects on the podium.
I was again impressed with Vacansoleil's work in the last kms, they seem to do there homework well, even though Bozic doesn't deliver yet.

I'd picked him for PTP - so he didn't have a hope in hell, I'm afraid

For what it's worth, Andy and Frank Schleck lose half a minute on the other GC favorites, coming in in the third group. They're definitely not riding to win the overall.

    Damn, Andy's my PTP pick....
Maybe they're just lulling the other GC contenders into a false sense of security
