the fulcrum 5 evos are very highly rated on here - probably near the kysirum equipe or campag scirroco level of wheels.

where have you seen them on offer? or are you just thinking at the moment - i think they will be a great choice on your tarmac.

i think Merlincycles have the best deal on these at the moment - £164.95 - such a bargain I was tempted with some for my winter bike!

  • I am seriously considering a pair of Planet X Model B's at £125...not bad for 1600g wheels.

I ahve Evo 5's, I am a fat bastard (130 kilos approx) and have done over 1500 miles on them since April, not a single issue with them.
  • I'm picking up my new Tarmac Elite on the 12th of September.

Do you think it would be worth purchasing the Fulcrums and selling off the Mavics before even using them?

I got a pair of Fulcrum 5 Evo's recently for £160 from my LBS. I wanted something reasonably light and strong to last longer than my previous wheelset. They ride very smoothly (although this depends partly on tyre choice). Only done a couple hundred miles on em so will let you know if any issues arise.
    Shazam !!
  • I've had Fulcrum 5s for two years now, good solid wheels, can't fault them. Riding handbuilts now but keeping the Fulcrums as spares.

The Planet X wheels mentioned might be ok for whippets but are very flexy if you are at all heavy like me (90kg). The aluminium freehub body gets chewed up by the cassette as well.

I'm 68kg,does this mean I can apply for whippet status?
  • Had a sets of 3's so far cracked front rim and broken rear spoke in approx 400 miles, plus tyres are really tight to fit as well. On the up side light and they do roll well

which year are those dmb101? I have a set of Fulcrums 3 bought a month ago, done around 200 miles in them and they are great, roll great and hold my weight (95kg) with ease.

Tyres are very easy to fit in the 3s - much easier than Ksyriums at least! :)

I've got a pair of Fulcrum 5s 2009 model that came with my Focus Cayo Campag (so Campag fitting obviously) and was thinking of selling if anyones interested. Bikes being delivered today and I'm doing the Tour Ride on them on Sunday so they'll only have done 90 miles from new. Will include the Continental Grand Prix 24mm tyres and tubes. Sensible offers only please or I'll keep them for commuting / winter wheels (not that I ride much in winter). As to why I don't want them there's a few reasons none of which are to do with wheels. Raising cash to pay for the bike and happy with my Easton Ascent II I've had for 4 years although they need the rear rim replacing that's the only issue I've had in that time. Would prefer delivery or collection as not got a suitable box to post and it'll be cheaper. Derby / Notts area.

While I'm feeling like Arthur Daley, I've got a smattering of Campag Chorus from the old bike for sale too.

    2007 Chainset 170mm 48 x 34 (changes nicer than a 50x34) Ultra Torque
    2006 12-25 Cassette
    2006 Chain with quick link
2006 Brake calipers these are almost brand new as only fitted them in June this year
2006 Ergo leavers few marks on the carbon
2006 Centaur rear mech, couple of marks from memory
    2003 Daytona front mech

2007 Selle Italia Flite gel flow saddle in white, usual off white colour they go after a year or two but a clean would help.

Bars and stem from the new bike up for grabs too.

I think the years are correct, I'll try and sort pics out this weekend

Open to offers as not done any research yet to see what it's all worth, particularly for the whole lot.
