Jersey sizing

I recently bought a Mavic Espoir jersey, but I'm not convinced the fit is right. It's not excessively tight (although the neck is very snug when the zip is done all the way up) but it is quite short, barely covering my waist. Is this normal? or do I need to go a size up/look for a brand that offers slightly longer jerseys?

Thanks.

Sizing of cycling clothing is beyond a joke
Sounds like your jersey is too small, would the next size up be too baggy ?
I recently bought a Pearl Izumi long sleeve jersey, fits nicely across the chest but the body is too long and the arms must be for an Orangutan. Nice colour though :D

  • I didn't try the next size up, but the bagginess on the one I currently have is about right, I would say, it's just possibly a little too short.

It sounds like we have opposite problems. Normally I find the clothes that are the right size on the chest are too short on the body and especially on the arms (though this jersey is short sleeved).

I actually tried a Pearl Izumi jersey and though it was far too small the length looked about right proportionally. Unfortunately they didn't have the size up in stock.

Trying it on I realised that my bib shorts show right through (it's a white jersey). Perhaps that's reason enough to change it! :D

    certainly is.
I always go one size bigger than what the chart says. Even then I've found some stuff too small?

I've often wondered " Do you need to be the size of an 8 year old boy the wear a "medium" Italian jersey.

And even then a very small 8 year old boy with under developed chest.

True story - bought a cycle jersey for my 4 year old (she is large for age but not fat), small ladies fits her nicely.

If the jersey is too short at the front when you stand up it'll most likely sit right when you are on the bike. If it's too short all round it's either the wrong size or the cut just doesn't suit you.

Adidas stuff tends to be very "sporting" (i.e. bike specific) and they make the Mavic clothes so I'd guess this is the issue.

+1. It's a pro fit product therefore it will be a little high up when standing however perfect when you are on the bike. Same as the fit on my Castelli Jacket. I must admit to feeling a little embarassed when landing into work with the my tight lycra shorts and my high waisted jacket. Left nothing to the imagination

I don't get it - I'm a 40 year old 5'10" man of 75kg (nearly 12 stone) with a 39" chest and find a medium the right size in Assos, Castelli, Descente and anyone else's jerseys. They are supposed to be close fitting, so I don't get why you think they're the size of a very small 8 year old boy with an underdeloped chest?

Are you being realistic about your own dimensions when picking the size?
