Hi peeps,

Am new to this forum and decided that I want to start riding to work. So heres what I want:

A hardtail decent bike with decent suspension as I may go offroad if possible too. Been looking at the carrera Krakan and GT aggressor. What do you guys think? Also gonna get some slicks to cut time down too. Much appreciate as much advice as poss. Wish I had more than 350 possibly stretch to 400. :)

  • Kraken gets loads of good reviews... As Laurence Olivier said in the film 'Clash of the Titans'............ "unleash the Kraken!"

GT make a good bike too, mind you. My 1990's Zaskar LE still favourite bike ive ever owned, traded it in against a Rocky Mountain Element

    Zaskar LEs rule!

The Carrera and the GT are sound choices. Try them out.
  • for 350 you can get bh over x 5.7. it is well designed. perfect for hardcore riding or a daily commute. i ride mine all the time. im now ready to move onto a fs but this is a perfect little hardtail for beggining and really gets you into the gist of things. also the frame is so strong you can do anything with it. also very light for the price at 13.3kg. perfect for you!

PS dont waste money on shi* halfords bikes.

Please, don't talk rubbish - the Aggressor and Kraken are very good bikes for the money, and better specced than that BH - which is not even available!
  • Very good responses so far! I have seen a kraken in the flesh although a little put off that its from halfords but it is a very nice looking bike. I am willing to push to 400 if I can get a much better bike for that price.

I think you'd be hard pushed - decent butted frame, rebound adjustable forks, hydro disc brakes and 9 speed SRAM with good kit and tyres will take some beating!
  • although a little put off that its from halfords

don't be - the majority of halfords bikes are great value for money, it's just that some of the staff that work there don't seem to have a clue. Saying that, there are loads of LBS's out there to get a service, parts etc.. if that's what you need?
  • I have one of these a 2007 model I think. Lovely bike. Has served me well for 2 years my riding is just now meaning I need to upgrade certain things on it ie. wheels, tyres.

Same bike is £439 on Evans'
  • I am liking the gt avalanche looks very nice. Yeh I guess I could just go to an independant shop to get the bike serviced after I have bought it.
