what was the Airborne Carpe Diem

and is now the VN Amazon (although the geometry is a little different...)

although you'd need a disc fork, obviously

Can you recommend a 700cc compatible fork with disc mounts suitable for use with this frame? (bonus if also has rack and guard mounts).

    there's not that many

Winwood and Trigon do carbon ones.

Bonty do the Satellite Elite (disc only)

Do a search on carbon cyclocross fork and see what comes up.

Or get Xi'an / XACD Titanium in China to make you a custom one for half the price of the Van Nicholas - that's what I did. They'll do you a matching titanium disc fork too - not the stiffest but great for the rough stuff. Be wary that some of the carbon disc forks are 420mm e.g. Trigon, whereas the frame might be set-up for 400mm - raises the front slightly and changes the handling a bit
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • We can make you one. We have done for a number of customers under the lucky seven guise. You'd be looking at a price about £150 above September model price. Dealing with UK designers and a small amount of common sense.

  • Given the customer service I've had from him this summer, I should probably put shout out for Justin Burls http://www.burls.co.uk/titanium.php

I'm sure he could get something knocked together for you - I love riding my Burls frame :-)

(Oh, and for forks, it's http://www.woundupcomposites.com/team_x_disc.html that I've been drooling over.)

What did you get in the end? I would be interested in a similar frame.
  • The Salsa Mule or Yakk or whatever it's called has what you're looking for. Just try getting one in this country however....just try...rocking horse poo

Don't forget to spec a rear disk mount on the chainstay, this is out of the way of the rear rack and fenders. The alternative is to use a "disc-compatable" rack which is 2" wider (2" more air resistance, 2" less gap-goingforability). You have to think carefully about the cable routing as well.

In terms of forks, the Kinesis fork is pretty good - is a proper road fork with disc tabs rather than some MTB/hybrid fork to suit suspension adjusted frames. I run a Trigon, but the frame geometry is compensated to suit.

    Hi

Like Monty Dog I have a titanium frame from X'ian with mudguard eyes, mounts for rack, and canti rear brake.

I run a Kinesis DC19 disc front fork with mudguard eyes in carbon. It is 400mm long and helps provide a very comfortable ride.

Total cost of around £600 delivered for the package.

Go for custom if you can.

    I've got one of these;

Available from Everti in Canada. I love how it rides, not so keen on cable operated discs though.

    nice.

I've seen those before and thought they were tidy.

The world is still waiting for a full carbon disc fork though......

(apart from the 415mm Trigon which is a tad long)

  • Cotic do the >X< fork. Carbon, disc & v-brake compatible. V-bosses screw out and can be plugged if you're using discs. No idea what they're like but think it's around £150.
