Does anybody know of anywhere within the UK I could get my hands on a kurt kinetic road machine? That time of year is rapidly approaching and I need a new turbo and have had my eye on their Road Machine for a while

Just to say I've had one for 3 years and very happy with it. After sales support from US is good too. Early this year needed a replacement part (screw that adjusts tyre/roller pressure), contacted them and they sent over one FOC.

Agree re their after-sales service -
The adjustment knob and the 'L' shaped threaded bolt stripped the threads (this is a weak point I think) so I contacted the company. Few days later 2 sets of these, both the plastic adjuster and the bolt came inthe post FOC. Excellent. I've used mine pretty regularly through the past 3 years or so and it is a great unit IMHO.

+1 from me for Kurt Kinetic. I've got the Road Machine from Planet X and the Rock'n'Roll from Chain Reaction last time they had them in. The latter turned up with parts missing that Kurt Kinetic sent promptlyfrom the USA FOC in response to an email from me. CRC never responded to the email I sent them about the missing parts but that's the only time I've had issues with them.
  • I've been reading on some other forums that the Kurt trainers are very quiet - do you guys that have them agree? Quietness would be a key factor for me (as I'd have to use it in my kitchen underneath my kids bedroom). thanks for any info.... By the way I couldn't see them on the Planet-X or On-One sites.

@ Scottie, they only seem to have the spares on there at the moment. Possibly waiting for an autumn shipment from the USA?

Both of my Kurt turbo's are quiet enough to train on and hold a conversation, although we usually use one of the Sufferfest videos.

Yes its quiet. Apart from the L bolt its built like a tank so once set up very stable. The fact that its so solid is its only drawback IMO since it means if you take it anywhere you get a short weight training session taking it to/from the car...

Also, I bought mine back way back before I got a power meter partly because I liked the idea that resistance vs speed would match what you feel on a road bike. Since then been able to test this and found that pretty close to riding a road bike on the hoods. If anything understates things slightly so a speed on the Kurt Kinetic would be less than if did same power on road bike. (If interested on mine 130W=24kph 240W= 33kph, 270W=35kph)

  • Hi Bahzob

Great feedback thanks - I've heard that it's partly because they are so heavy is why they are so good. Excellent to know the rough power levels too.

  • CRC have discontinued them! - Not listed on the website anymore

  • Sorry to resurrect this.. CRC have discontinued the model I wanted and i'm not sure if I can bring myself to spend £250 on a turbo for the rock and roll. Planet X have also discontinued.

Anybody know of anywhere in the UK, even at LBS level, that stocks these?

  • Yes - I've found the same problem. I've checked with Planet-X and they don't plan on restocking.... so I'm not sure who else sells them either ... might try contact Kurt directly and see what they say.

  • I've sent them an e mail to that effect today, will post on here if I get any thing back

  • I've just sent a message to their UK distributor who are based in Belgium - likewise will post if I here back ... there might be some European online bikeshops who sell them?

  • Just found a good review too: Kinetic Road Machine Review

  • Has anybody managed to find these trainers in the UK? Or if from the US directly, how much extra VAT was charged? Thanks.

Also how quite is it compared to "CycleOps Jetfluid Pro" as this review http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/accessories/resistance-trainer/product/jetfluid-pro-33885 states "...it’s the quietest trainer we’ve used."

    Many Thanks.
