Hello,

Well, I finally ventured into north Wales for the Bank Holiday weekend and rode at Nant y Arian on Saturday (Summit trail) and Coed y Brenin on the Sunday and Monday. 10 minuted into the Summit trail I realised that I didn't have any brakes, so had to find the local bike shop to sort my brakes out. Got there just before it closed, they fixed them, and finally started riding about 5.30pm!

On Sunday we rode the Tarw trail and yesterday the MBR - my first ever attempts at black trails! The weather was absolutely pants for both of them, really wet and miserable :(

I don't know what other peoples opinions are but I really didn't like the Tarw - far to much climbing on fireroads and some fireroad descents which meant the the downs didn't justify the climbs :? I ended up miserable, tired and very wet after taking 3 hours to do the trail

The MBR yesterday in contrast was FAB :D I loved it. For some bizarre reason I have a complete phobia about man-made rock 'things' (i'm fine zooming over technical rooty / rock bits as long as they don't look 'planned'!) so the start was a nightmare for me along the rocky path (right by the centre  ), but after that it was great! I rode the black sections without stopping apart from one descent down a rocky slab which looked a bit too scary for me.... Theres one section which is super rooty and rocky which was BRILLIANT!! Did it in an very slow 2 1/2 hours, which although IS slow was keeping up with a couple of chaps also doing the MBR so hopefully not TOO embaressing.

Anyway, am feeling a bit shattered today but very pleased with myself. I didn't think I could do half the stuff I did yesterday (and still don't quite know how I did....) :D

I just need to cure my rock phobia now - it's ridiculous being able to do the techy stuff but not the bits they purposely make rideable

The Tarw trail is a bit Marmite. I love it, saying that the old red bull was better.

The start of the MBR is a cheeky one, gets the lungs going right from the off

Don't knock yourself 2 1/2 hours aint bad! Now get back and do the beast

Cool, well, i'm pleased to hear that the times aren't too bad then!!

Personally I blame the fact it was raining and the rocks were all slippery anyway...:lol:

The rain can make it hard work down there.

Next time your up and its raining try the Marin trail Near Betws y coed. That trail drains a treat and is a pleasure to ride in the wettest weather.

Thanks for the suggestion - it always seems to be raining when we visit Wales so will definitely give that one a go!! :D
