Planet X SL Pro Carbon: Standard vs. Ultegra Version. Which?

Ok. So following yesterdays post I have settled on the Planet X. But which to buy?
The 'standard' comes in at £999. Whereas the Ultegra version comes in at £1299.
I have looked at the specs, and the only differences are the bars, chainset, cassette and brakes.
Ultegra swaps the following:
105 Cassette for a Ultegra cassette
FSA Gossamer Comp chainset, for the FSA K-Force Carbon Compact
Dia compe BRS 100 brakes, for their new CNC ultralight brakes
PX strada road bar, for the superlight team bar.
The price difference for buying these four items individually from Planet X is £172.88. So is it worth getting the Ultegra version?
Or should I save the £300, and upgrade with different items myself?
Please share your thoughts!

I would have thought the Ultegra version comes with an Ultegra front mech, Ultegra STIs and Ultegra chain. That will add a fair bit more to £172!
Or you could go for the SRAM Rival version for £999 which is lighter than the Ultegra anyway! Happy days!!!x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x

Ok, made it a bit confusing. The 'standard' version has Ultegra STI's, Ultegra front and rear mechs. They both come with a 105 chain.
The differences listed are literally the ONLY ones! I thought it was odd.Road: Felt AR0, Di2

Oh, seems that they have removed that from their website. Shame because that was really good value I thought.
I would go for the cheapest then and then upgrade those components that you want upgraded. You will have spare change for new wheels.x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x

They've sold out of their batch of SRAM, see the comments here:

At the moment the £999 deal looks better to me. Planet-X change their stock so often though that I suspect that the deals have just got slightly out of sync since the £1299 one does seem disproportionately more expensive.
By the way, you realise that it's £100 more if you want it built, right?
I still think Ribble represents better value (you could have an 11spd Sportive for £1160 built for example) but Planet-X are certainly easier to deal with.

Get the cheaper one, I think the brakes may be the best bit of the upgrades, but mine came with Tektro's and their fine. By the way, the wheels (if Model B's) although cheap, are excellent. You would have to spend beyond £400 (at least) to make any worthwhile improvements.0

Thanks for the link matthew. My heart was originally set on the Ribble sportive but have now fallen for the Blue PX frame. Reason being, I'm not very fond of carbon weave showing on frames.
The £100 to build is a bugger! I would consider putting it together myself, but I'm not too confident with my bike building skills!Road: Felt AR0, Di2

That Ultegra version seems a bit of a rip-off to me :?winter beast: http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr34 ... uff016.jpg

Can I be cheeky and ask for opinions on the SRAM red version for £1599. Would this be a good purchase at that price. It seems to be to me? Or does the £999 bike with Ultegra/105 mix give better value?Bianchi. There are no alternatives only compromises!

I think the white and blue frames are out of stock if you take a large I don't like it in black and as much as I like the pink its a no no.Bianchi. There are no alternatives only compromises!

It could be worse. I paid £1,199 + £100 build cost for the Standard version in early June, about four weeks before they reduced the price by £200! If they weren't such nice people at PX I'd have been vaguely disquieted.
IMHO, and to echo previous threads on a similar subject, you won't notice the difference and certainly not to the tune of £300. Save the money and buy shiny accoutrements instead!
I love my PX and cannot praise it highly enough.
Do it!!!0 -

You my friend have a very nice bike. Your sig is what made me choose the PX! I was searching 'PX SL Pro Carbon Blue' last night, and your amazing bike is the third result on google! IMO I think the Blue PX looks better with the black fork!Road: Felt AR0, Di2

Just noted your first bike in your sig. Rather bizarrely I have just graduated from a Giro 300 to a PX (although black not blue - wanted white but none turned up in the delivery!)0

£1600 for a full Red build is pretty cheap. Bear in mind that Red is the lightest groupset on the market and has proven itself in the Grand Tours.
Matthew
EDIT: Though again, it's £100 more if you want the bits put together.0 -
Are they talking 09 ultegra ? if so , what 'planet' are they on ? - I upgraded from 105 to ultegra(2009) on my new bike for an extra £90. Ultegra 2010 is quite a significant upgrade though.0
