New Chainring Required

Hi All,
Was into the last mile of my weekend ride yesterday, stood up and put some pressure on the pedals, heard a high pitched pinging noise and my chain came off - on closer inspection, found that the inner chainring was buckled and only two bolts left holding it to the outer ring!! I don't know when I lost the other bolts, they must have worked loose without me realising (something to make sure I check in future...) and this put too much strain on the remaining bolts.
Question is, do I need to replace damaged ring with the same make/model ? It is a five bolt, 36 tooth FSA ring, would all 36t rings with 5 bolt holes have the same pitch between bolts or does it vary by manufacturer?
Thanks in advance for any advice.....
Steve

not all 5 bolt rings have the same BCD
how to work out what you have

Thanks, think I've sussed it now, I assume as long as the BCD is correct I can use a Shimano ring bolted to a FSA ring?0

Most likely! There have been incididences where a bit of filing is needed - and make sure the ring is the same 'speed'.0

FSA rings are very good and pretty cheap too.
You'll more than likely need a 110mm BCD ring, and I reckon FSA is your best bet.
