Hi there

I am not technically minded at all, so please accept my apologies for the uninformed nature of this post!!

I have recently bought my wife a Saracen Trace 2 in the sale at Wiggle.

It arrived a couple of weeks ago but we've only just had the chance to use it for the first time this weekend. Set it up yesterday and took it out for a 'serious' ride this afternoon.

Unfortunately, we seem to have a problem. The 2nd, 3rd and 6th gears all 'slip'. I used dry lube on the chain and cogs before we set out so it's not that.

For example, you will be peddaling in 2nd and the chain will slip from 2nd into 3rd and straight back again. This happened on a couple of occassions on the road, which obviously proved quite dangerous as it throws you stride out completely!!

Is this just a case of the gears 'bedding in', have we done something wrong, or have we bought a dud?

All help much appreciated!

sounds like the cable tension needs adjusting.

have a read of the how to on Parktools.
"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

  • And don't lube the "cogs", they don't need it at all and will just attract crud :)
