If I hit my max heart rate, most likely going uphill, should I keep going as hard as i can or back off a little?
I'm early thirtys with no known health issues.

Well depends on long it is? I go up hills hitting my max heart rate but depending how long the hill is or how long the ride is I like to back it off and try get it down abit to save abit of energy and not totally blow myself up.

For the first 80 miles of a ride I don't like my heart rate hitting 190.

By definition you can't go over you re maximum so you'd have to back off eventually. I was under the impresion that a 100% effort was only maintainable for a matter of seconds (ie a 100/200m race)
