Hello fellow bikers,

My name's Jon, I live in Japan. I've decided to give biking a try. I know next to nothing about it and almost bought a full suspension bike for $200. If you want to take a look at a full suspension Wal-Mart bike, Japan style, you can check it out here: http://bixlabo.co.jp/SHOP/m75.html

Luckily, I found this site and a few others that recommended avoiding such a bike for under $500. Living in a small city in Japan, none of the local bike retailers carry anything I can try so I must buy online… I can’t follow the best advice "to test ride for a best fit".

Anyway, I've decided on these 3 as they are most accessible to me, I’ve found searching for Giant, Trek and Specialized bikes very difficult:
- 2009 GT Aggressor - $300
- 2009 GT Outpost - v-brake - $350
- 2009 GT Outpost - disc brake - $380
The specs of these bikes can be found here:

Here is where I reach out to some of you more experienced riders in hopes that you can help me make a decision.

1) Based on the specs, is the V-break Outpost worth the $50 and the Disc break Outpost worth the $80?
2) Will disc brakes lock up and throw me off the bike if they malfunction?
3) Last and probably most importantly, a question about fit.
I'm 165 cm (5'6") and 125 pounds and I fall under two categories (both S and M Size are good but I am on the low end of the M size would the bike be too big?) I guess I'm asking for a general answer in this case since fit is so personal but in general, is a smaller bike easier to ride, control and dominate?
below are the spec sheets for size:

I thank you for reading and Looking forward to your thoughts.

Cheers,

Jon
