Oh well. I like the Ribble Winter Trainer myself but if you want something more flash Pearsons to decent carbon frame that takes guards. With Ultegra it would be around 2k I guess. The only thing is that it might be better than your best bike...?

I've just bought myself a Revolution Courier Nexus to use during the winter; it's a hybrid with 8 speed Shimano Nexus hub gears and at the moment is £100 off at only £299.99 from Edinburgh Bike Coop. It arrived on Monday and looks like it'll do the job very well.

I had a Langster over the last 2 winters but found that only 1 gear made my knees sore. The lack of deraileur gears was good though, hence the hub geared bike this time. I'm looking forwards to a good winters riding on a bike that's easy to clean.

What the heck are you supposed to do with this thing? Doesn't look as though it would stand up to much, let along a harsh winter.

Well surely now you don't need to since the Crud roadracers came out. Don't need anything that takes full length mudguards. You can use any bike and fit these guards, job done!

The Crud Roadracers don't get a very high score in the latest C+ that arrived at my house yesterday; I think their comments were that they were good if they fit your bike but very fiddly if they don't.

  • I use an Enigma Etape for winter - full guards, titanium so no corrosion worries (for the frame at least), and a sublime ride. Built it for under £2k with Centaur and Kysrium Elites.
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

Great, but it just means people probably take even less notice of what you write

As far as I'm concerned, you can't take your money with you and riding should still be as pleasurable as possible.
Though assuming you don't have limitless funds, you could spend the money on some nice wheels for your good bike instead of spending lots of money on a winter bike.

Yeah, but winter can last an awfully long time, so why not ride something nice?

I don't understand your problem mate. I've always answered postings with the original quote in italics, and you are the only person that's ever had a problem with it. Geez is it that important to you?

You are talking jive. That alu. frame & chro moly fork is stronger than any carbon and the components (Sora) are durable......not as light or nice as 105 but durable. If your winter bike isn't bit cheap, then I really don't see the advantage of having one. Why not just ride your nice bike with clip on guards?
