Hi all - as I newbie poster I'd thought I'd be the bearer of good Anthem X 2010 news... Just found a link with all the models and prices.

http://www.pedalon.co.uk/acatalog/giant ... nsion.html

Quite a change around from last year, with the bottom model now being an X4, but at £1400... Before everyone panics and curses the useless UKP, this basic model does come with a Fox F100 fork, so clearly Giant have decided to upspec from last year.

A quick look through the specs does suggest a price increase from 2009, but nothing too insane. Based on the colour schemes alone, I reckon the X3 and X4 will fly from the shops. Now, which one is it to be... :D

Well the fork upgrade is a good idea but not really necessary, they had the right idea with the x3 make most things bottom range but still decent-ish that way people like me could buy the bike as a whole, flog the cheap bits and throw on what they want or just ride it and replace bits as and when.

The x4 is very interesting, spec wise a good step up from the old x3 and a more well rounded starting bike, could be quite interesting.

I see they stuck with the standard qr, rumour was they were stepping up to qr12/15.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

The £2k X2 and £1750 X3 actually look quite sensibly specced for the money,by this year`s standards.
At £1750 the X3 has mostly SLX,Alivid Elixir 5,Fox F100,etc.All good solid stuff, and I reckon the price isn`t too bad now we have seen where Trek and Specialized are pitching their prices.
The 09 X1 was £2100 and had SID Teams and full XT,whereas the £2000 2010 X2 has Fox f100 forks and XT groupset.Wheelset has been slighlty downgraded, but its not really giving much away, for a bike at a similar price point.

New X1 has full XT,XT wheels SID teams and looks the business in red:http://www.pedalon.co.uk/acatalog/giant_anthem_x1.html
Not sure at £2750 it seems as though you are really getting much more than the £2k X2 though.......

I think I`d be happy with the £1750 X3 and would spend the change on some lighter wheels.

Would love to see the weights.

That 09 X3 at £925 at pedalon is a bargain.

That new X4 could be a real star next year. Good to see the Race Face stuff replaced with Shimano.

This however, is just top shelf pornography:

Im really not liking the colour scheme at all, very bland compared to last year, i also don't rate their choice of using maxxis this time around, they should have stuck with schwalbe so this was probably a cost cutting exercise which is a shame.

    Must try harder giant.

for nearly £3k for the x1 and they've stuck deore lx rotors on instead of xt, and xt wheels which are ok but i'd much rather have some mavics or dt swiss for that money.

Very bland looking aren't they, causing me to reconsider my planned purchase.
  • Actually I quite like the single colour schemes - can't say I was particularly keen on the two tone frames last year - particularly the X1 - yuk... But beauty is in the eye and all that...

Pretty inevitable, given the 2010 price rises.I actually don`t think its bad value compared to rival bikes..

As much as I love Giants, they`ve never really nailed colour schemes. My XTC is a sOrt of dull greyish khaki green for example.

I saw the Giant online Australian catalogue and there were a lot of differences in the Anthems, what really bothers me though is that there is no XS sized frame this time around. On the catalogue XS sizes were mentioned so does anyone know if they do make them but the stores don't stock them or the uk versions of the bikes don't come in XS sizes...

The higher prices were a bit unwelcome but if there are no XS sizes I am looking for a different bike. Maybe an XS Canyon Nerve XC. Not happy as I like Anthems and unfortunatelly I do not have the 1360£ for an XS Anthem X2 2009 model to buy it before stock ends on that one.

The pics on the pedal on site look a bit high contrast, I reckon the colours will be nicer in the flesh, but I do prefer last year's.
  • looking at the range,i am seriously considering going for a 2010 anthem x4.it seems a great deal £1400.would complement my 08 s works ht a treat i reckon :)

Starting to realise what a bargin my Trance X1 was back in 2008 at only 1500 quid.

It's true that since 2008 prices have gone up considerably across the board, but I agree that overall £1400 appears a pretty decent price when you consider that to buy the frame and forks alone would cost £1500... I can't see many other manufacturers of quality full sus bikes speccing a Fox fork for that kind of cash. Also, IMHO the X4 looks damn gorgeous in white - always had a bit of a thing for white bikes... (apart from the white seat which would have to be changed immediately)
  • have ordered a 20 10 giant anthem x4.for some reason though, some of the model sizes will not arrive until feb 2010 (as the small anthem x4 i have ordered.)would check before ordering, when it will arrive.why don't they bring all the sizes in at the same time.it's heightest i tell ya!!! :D
  • have ordered a 20 10 giant anthem x4.

I think i might well be following you... although that is odd regarding the length of time before they are in stock. Hopefully the M will be a bit quicker.

Incidentally, the Giant UK site now has all the new bikes on it - http://www2.giant-bicycles.com/EN-GB/bikes/
  • I happened to be near Reading yesterday,on business so popped in to Pedalon whileI was over that way.Guy in the shop said most of the new Anthems were due in stock in November. He also said they had an 2010 X2 in,but it wasn`t on the shop floor.
They had 5 2009 Anthem X3s in L left in stock at £925.
Was tempted,to get one for a frame swap, but as I`d be going up a size,I`d probably have needed new forks(steerer lenght),longer brake hoses, etc,so think I`ll wait til next year, and look at an X3 or X4 with the Fox forks.

That sucks, but it'll be worth the wait mate, it's a fantastic bike :D

Hmm - prices are up (likely the same as most manufacturers) and I can't make myself like those new paint jobs - glad I bought my 2009 models while there were still some left !
