Hey all,

I know, sounds a bit daft!

So, will the likes of Parcelforce collect from my work? And do I need to do anything to prepare it - eg : loosen the bars, take off the wheels etc?

And how much should it cost from one side of the country to the other, for example?

Cheers,

Andy

senditnow.com are very good & will pick up & deliver anywhere, £11.99 for next day delivery

You will need a bike box (goto your bike shop)

Pipe insulation (for the frame & forks) B&Q etc...

Bubble wrap for the rest of the bike

fork spacer (see your bike shop)

    Zip ties & gaffer tape

Thick cardboard to go between the front wheel & frame

Jiffy bags for the pedals & I use them over the ends of the bars too

You will have to remove the front wheel, remove the bars, remove the pedals, remove the saddle & post.

Cover the frame & forks with the pipe insulation & zip tie it on, put the spacer in the fork drop out to prevent damage to the forks

Bubble wrap the rest of the bits to prevent damage, especially the rear mech as it prone to damage in transit if not well protected.

If you have disc brakes get a pad spacer (bike shop) or some clean cardboard to place in the gap between the pads on the front caliper to stop the pads closing up if the lever gets knocked in transit

Think that's it off the top of my head.

Bike box should be free (just an old one that a bike came in, shops just throw them out) as should the disc pad spacer & fork spacer if you ask nicely in the bike shop (a pack of biscuits will help as a bribe)

bubble wrap from anywhere that sells packaging materials, Staples, WHSmiths etc

Bubble wrap and pipe lag from homebase or somewhere - they do bubble wrap by the metre off a roll - way cheaper option.
    Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.
  • And dont under estimate the amount of bubble wrap you need either, I've just had my frame delivered and it came in enough bubble to keep me going on ebay nicely for the next year or so!

Try parcels 2 go as a courier.
  • Great stuff.

    Parcelforce aren't so good then?
  • senitnow.com are parcelforce.

I have used them in excess of 20 times and they are spot on, I see no need to use anyone else, and for £11.99 for 24 hour delivery you can't go wrong.

I have just sold another of my bikes, and packed it up yesterday, took me half an hour to do it right, I would hate for someone to buy something from me and it got damaged!

They are picking up Tuesday, all from the comfort of my own home!
