Telling the diff. between 2005/6/7/8/9 Gary Fisher Rig 29er?

I expect to get a lot of stupid responses - I have opened myself to them!
Seriously though, does anyone KNOW (I mean, really know not speculate) how to tell the difference between models brought out in different years?
Something like frame design changed in year 200.. would help.
Reason I ask is because I have bought one as part of an auction job-lot, and because the frame has been (poorly) resprayed I am not sure which year it is from. Checking Gary Fisher's website sheds little light, because the full spec isn't listed. On top of this, I suspect that some of the parts have been upgraded/swapped out.
So the only original parts might be the frame, rims, tyres (in good nick), and forks (minus most of the branding stickers).
