SIDI shoes with MTB cleats

I currently use SIDI MTB shoes with Wellgo RC-715 pedals (SPD style). For most riding and even the last Club "10" I did they worked really well.
However, if I wanted to have a go at a triathlon I'm sure most of the other entries would be using triathlon shoes with full carbon soles for ultra stiff power transfer.
I'm sure there's a way to use a Shimano MTB cleat and pedal combo with road shoes, would the same be true of the SPD-style Wellgo? Could I just find a way to fit these cleats to a tri shoe?

Most road shoes these days only come with the 3-hole cleat pattern - but you might be able to find an older model somewhere with the 2-hole SPD cleat mounts.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

BUMP from the dead :P
I just found these triathlon shoes with SPD-style cleat compatibility:

Anyone tried these: Would the metal cleat fit well on the carbon sole?
Going a little off-topic, anyone else think this would be a good buy if I was planning to do some TT's and triathlons next year? I already have some Campag Zonda's with Ultremos which I would fit instead, but once they're in I could flog the F7's with cassette for maybe around £100! Anyone got one:

I currently have a titanium bike which I fit with tri-bars as and when needed but wondered if this bike together with my Zonda's would give me more power transfer?0
