Any HammerSchmidt experience (or similar)?

The new bike I am eyeing up is HammerSchmidt compatible but I've not spoken to anyone / seen it in action and wondered if anyone here had it on their bike or had demo'd something with it on?
A friend of mine has put a Shimano Alfine hub on his Cove, and despite sometimes wishing he had an extra gear either side of the 7 he has, is happy with it's lack of maintenance requirements and ability to change gears whilst cranking hard or not at all.
I know the Rohloff is a more expensive option than the Shimano (and I'm guessing better), but if the HammerScmidt is a lot better then maybe it's worth the investment?
Any comments welcome
Thanks

i rode a marin attack trial for 2 days earlier in the year and other than finding it abit to pedal, mainly cos i dont have a shock pump, i thought the hammerschmidt it self was awesome, super quick shifts either way, great ground cleareance and it should be maitenacne free, i did find the over drive abit too high a ratio tho, it equates to 36t ring, normally i ride a 320

finding it a bit to pedal? what the hell does that mean?
Why did not having a shock pump, make the Hammershmidt awesome?0 -
oh the marin felt abit soft ie had alot of pedal bob, the fact i thoguth the hammerschmidt was awesome had nothin to do with not having a shockpump, i would have just prefered the marin with slightly firmer suspension. sorry for the confusion0

Ah, right.
There were a few critical words left out there!
I found the marin felt stupidly spongy straight from the shop, but once I set the sag to 30%, it feels nice and taught, but still plush. Hard to describe!
When it came from the shop, it had close to 50% sag, and that WAS way too soft!0 -
Sorry Lawman 'thoguth' is that Norse or was it suppose to be 'thought'.

The hammerschmidt comes with either a 22 or 24 chainring with 1:1 or 1:1.6 drive, giving roughly 22-36 or 24-38.Now where's that "Get Out of Crash Free Card"0
