  • I've ridden there whilst at injury rehab centre with work and it's a nice area only hour (ish) away.

Flint House, the Met's holiday home. Great cheesecakes and Banoffee pie. Went there when I broke my leg on duty. Highly recommended.
Det. Sgt. George Carter: Do you know what, Jack? You're full of sh!t.
Det. Insp. Jack Regan: I thought it was about time you made an intellectual contribution to this debate.
    Det. Sgt. George Carter: Boll@cks.
  • You got it Pepe...been there on 3 different occasions now. 5+ star place. I stayed away from the cheesecake but I did slip a carrot cake down one night!

Great area to ride and that's where I'm going to start getting train out to. Only hour or so away on train.

  • Hi Drew. There are a couple of books with the more scenic / traffic free routes around London that I've found handy over the years. Don't have titles to hand, but if you do a web search or check with your LBS I'd expect you'll find them. It's not "real cycling" in the sense of speed, hills etc, but it is a nice way to get out and explore the city while you're here.

Otherwise, you have to get out of town, but within an hour or so, by either car or train, there is some great road and off-road stuff. I recall Victoria station has some excellent links out to the North and South Downs, and to the West, the Chilterns around Henley has some nice routes (there are books available with suggested routes as well). Just take care using trains on Sundays as there are often delays and cancellations for work on the lines.

The next obvious choice of course is to head somewhere like the Peak district or back to Wales for a nice biking weekend! Best of luck! :D

  • Just to add to this Drew, it's been p1$$ing down for a week here in South Wales and you guys had 26 deg and sunny yesterday if I'm not mistaken? 8)
