Headwind of death this morning

Seriously. I felt like I was in some kind of mental Japanese gameshow. Don't know how I made it in without throwing up.

Still, bodes well for the ride home. If the traffic lights are kind and the wind holds there could be a PB in the offing...

Damn Straight! I thought I was going to die this morning, the wind usually swings a bit so I'll no doubt have a sidewind on the way home, I might get blown off

    ah ha!

I obvious commute in the oppo direction, stunning tailwind! does not bode well for the trip home.

My legs are still shot from the headwind last night, and having two club mates shelter behing me for a couple of km in the park did not help my enjoyment.

The wind wasn't that strong down my way, but the legs felt dreadful so I used my mid-route bail-out and jumped on the train to work with my bike. I promise I will cycle home though tonight, even if it is raining...
  • Yep, even in the smoke gusts of 20mph+, pure Westerly. I had a lot of very fine Pouilly-Fuissé last night so this morning's commute was challenging to say the least. Though as you say should make the ride home fun...

    Yeah, today's headwind was epic.

Felt like I was just standing still at some stages.

    Wind pressure keeping it in?
  • Not to bad for the wind here in sunny but chilly Crawley, last nights headwind was a bit harsh though, felt like my legs were jelly by the time i got home. Felt good this morning, but tonights ride home may be a different story :(.

Mate last night on dartmoor was killer, I hasd to stay in the drops as much as possible, because merely raising my head brought me to a standstill.

I had the tailwind this morning but I had no energy whatsoever - I didn't struggle as such as I was basically being pushed along, but I also couldn't take any advantage of it. Perhaps too many days riding (incl up mountains) without a break?

I hope the energy comes back before tonight :(
  • Yep I noticed the wind this morning as I walked from the Gym to the car, car made mincemeat out of cutting through the gale.

Watched the forcast last night and chickened out.

Varying my exercise you know.

Yep. A couple of recovery days with good food and you'll come back stronger :D Well, that's the plan for me anyway.

Yeah, I'm suffering this week, commuting to and from Willesden rather than Pimlico every day isn't helping. Still took 2 roadie scalps this AM, and a fellow SSer though.

I have 5 days off work but wisely chose to stay inside, happily watching the gales outside whilst eating choc. :D

I even rode the Focus today as I've had some pain in the top of my left foot using the toeclips on the fixie. Ah well. And I'll get more than a couple of days off - 12 days in Italy with no obvious biking opportunities, sigh. I'll have to swim hard, or something...

That'll definately increase the water resistance *snigger*

    what tailwind??

i prefer the more likely explanation that the 7 pints of beer and chicken tika masala from last night has given me super human powers.

i look forward to the journey home pooling at 25mph

I've already been into the Embankment headwind today (and back again) and, my God, it was hard. :x I'm not very enthusiastic about the journey home at the moment.

Hang on, the alternative is the train.

    Ok, enthusiasm's back. :D

I feel for you all I really do, I popped to the shop just now to purchase a couple of bottles of bubbly for this evening and said to myself I'm glad i'm not commuting today.

Back to the conservatory for G&T's and internet shopping :D

NKR is normally fine in a headwind, being less exposed. Half tempted to try Victoria St / King's Road. If nothing else, it's a bit of variety.

Most disappointed not to to get PB this morning, especially after PW (personal worst) last night...

Was there a wind this morning? I kind of figure that there was something (behind me, heading East) but I was going fast enough (20+mph) that I still had some headwind anyway.

Going home where it seemed stronger wasn't too bad either. But then again do enough riding is seriously crap weather and you'll develop character and not notice.

Thats not taking the p!ss BTW, just think happy thoughts and think of how strong and healthy you are for doing it.

I was goosed by the time I reached Richmond Park. I pedalled hard enough to make forward progress, but that's it. Slept like a baby last night.

I absolutely hate head wind... When i'm in a bad mood it can really put me off riding. It probably annoys me way more than it should... :P If I have to ride to work in it though? It's not good, :D

Friday evening ride after work. Headwind all the way up to 1/2 way point, so we came back along the coast road. We were both freewheeling at 22mph for a good 2 miles. Jeeez it was blowing a gale there.
Went out to do a 30 miler Saturday morning before the usual weekend trip to Homebase and that wind was still there. Hit an area of open heathland and wouldn't you know it..uphill with the headwind. I couldn't get above 15MPH on a road that I can usually tackle at 20 :x

Wind has been pretty strong in the east today. I'm sick of cycling into a gale and it was bloddy cold as well when dark clouds rolled over.
