Wasnt quite sure where to put this but wondered what peoples thoughts were on a small issue Ive got with my stumpy and the thule 591 pro ride carrier.

The gear cables and rear brake line run down the underside of the down tube and have little clips to hold them in place however, the 591 clamps against the underside and top of the down tube as some of you will know. Im not happy clamping over the lines / cables as damage could occur as well as the 591 clamp not clamping the way it was intended.

What are my options? The only thing I can think of is to pull some slack in the cables where the clamp mounts so as not to crush the lines / cables.

Any thoughts? Anyone else out there in the same situation?

I became aware of a similar issue the weekend, though slightly different in that I have a Boardman Comp where the cables run under the crossbar and, therefore, get sandwiched between the frame and my Maxxraxx carrier. This is my first experience with hydraulic brakes so I worry about squashing and splitting pipes and cables.

I am considering extra rubber, and old inner tube perhaps, between the bike and rack to mould round the cables.

I put foam round the frame (about 6mm thick) then tighten the clamp 8)
    No problems so far

I've got a stumpy and the same Thule carrier. I've been clampingdown on the cables for the last 18 months with no problem at all. I've got a bit of cabe rub on the frame, but hey, it's a mountainbike, so it just adds to the battlescars.

Cut up an old inner tube and wrap it round the frame where the clamp will attach.

All the cables that go to the rear on my Pace run down the underside of the downtube. Ive never had a problem however towards the bottom of the downtube it starts to oval off a little so that allows the cables to sit in a small gap in the 'V' on the bottom half of the clamp.

TBH I can't see it causing too much of an issue.
