DT Swiss Skewers

Managed to overtighten and snap the shiny red allen key bolt the other day on my front DT Swiss RWS skewer.

The lever then fell off but the ratchet system still holds the wheel in place.

Looking to replace only the bolt but found out that I've obviously got to replace the whole skewer to the tune of £28.00 from ChainReaction.

Must admit despite them holding the wheel tighter than my old man's wallet, I've never really got on with 'em. Has anyone any recommendations?

Or whilst I'm there should I just shell out for the thru-bolt ones at £43.99?

Mmm so if your hub has a hollow axle for a QR is it removable without the bearings falling out?

if yes then the thru axles might work. If not then i have no idea how they would work.

    depends on the hubs.

and spesh have the only 9mm through front hub that i know off. Other than DT.

10mm thru rear hubs are a bit more common but still rare. (Hope/saint)

Personally I would just get some good Shimano Qr levers.

  • As Nick says, it depends on the hubs whether you can get 9mm and 10mm converters or not. Even then it will be expensive. A DT RWS set will total 90-100 quid.
