Alexrims. Are these a decent make? What value are a pair of DP20s?
Cheers.

Thats terrifying!! I am not that technical. I have disc brakes, an 8 gear cassette and weigh about 13st 8lbs. My budget is £150. I fancy something that looks a bit bling but really want to notice a difference by putting on some new wheels. What would you recommend???? HELP!!!!!!! :?
Oh and I mostly ride XC with some little jumps.0 -

Crossrides are sick!! Im not to keen on alex rims, had a few pairs on hardtails and they buckle really easy and are not very lite imo. Mavic rims are the mutts nuts80 x 80 is not enough pixels!!!!

Are there any disadvantages to the straight pull spokes? They certainly look great 8)0

They're good wheels, I had them on my Cube only had to have the rear trued once even with my 17.5 stone on them. Sadly the front didn't agree with a collision with a tree stump so I've not got them anymore0

I'd personally rather have the merlin handbuilts just for ease of spares. Well actually i'd build them myself 8) but the point is the same.
As for people saying the alexrims are rubbish, they really aren't. They're a bit heavy but the issue is that they often come as a cheap wheel that is poorly build in my experience. A once over with a spoke key, some pre-stressing and then a final tune and they run pretty well tbh.0 -
Thanks for the advise. Mavic Crossrides it is then!!0

What bike is it for?0

I have a GT Avalanche 2.0 bought from Evans about 2 years ago. Want to upgrade it, got advised to upgrade wheels or forks first so going with wheels due to lack of funds.0

Id steer clear of alex rims, i have the dp17's and they're ok but they are very heavyweight, i use them on hard rides to save beating up a good set plus it means i have to work harder so come race day i throw on a light set and motor. The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.
