Replace frame with a carbon frame having a more 'road' geometry

Replace wheels & tyres with 700x23c jobbies.

Affix 105 Groupset in relevant places

    Swap pedals for SPDs.

    Go.

Seriously, some thinner, slicker tyres. SPDs. Should be fine. What did they nick, and why did you settle for that?
  • They Nicked a Giant Boulder disc and that was the only option they gave me :(

  • Fit some 26" slicks like Schwalbe Kojak or Conti Sport Contact and keep them pumped up to max pressure. It will make a huge difference to how easily it rolls and you'll have a perfectly functional commuter.

Also, mudguards if you ride in all weathers!

Tyres - dependant on your route.
Everything else I would leave on until it wears out.

    Who are you insured with?
Not climber, not sprinter, not rouleur

Your insurance company is taking the P!SS!

What happened!? Like for like, always.

    Anyway,

    Rigid forks, slick tyres, SPD's.

That's as may be, but you don't have to accept. Just say, "No. Mine was a Giant Boulder Disc, they still make them, that's what I want".

Tyres, mudguards and SPDs as mentioned above.

Can't see if you can lock out the front fork, but if you can do that too.

You could also flip the headset and put long bar ends on to give you more of an aero set-up.

    EDIT: Meant stem not headset.

Maybe look for a rigid fork off eBay (possibly a P2). Otherwise spend the minimum possible on it and hope it gets nicked.

Nooooooooo! If it gets nicked, the insurance company will offer to replace it with a second-hand shopper...

  • if you really don't like it? either argue with the insurance, or sell bike and use money to get or at least towards one you do like.

in terms of the commute thats not too bad, get the forks set up hard, get some slicks, they will make it a lot easier,

one could add mudguards etc. but the ones for MTB tends not to be great for road as they need not to jam full of mud.

It's a fairly cheap MTB which is fine but don't go spending money on new forks etc.
