A friend posted this link on Twitter. Quite amazing how riders got hold of their water when they didn't have a support car following them!

Surely drinking alcohol isn't the best of ideas!

    Great video though! :D

The organisers had actually banned the taking of glass bottles into the peleton (for obvious reasons) but it was generally ignored. When Vin Denson rode as a domestique for Van Looy he used to carry a bottle opener in his pocket as the man liked a beer on a hot day.

Like the title says "Men were Men". Not some sissy who's always worrying about his electrolyte, carb, protein, ratio and power output.:wink:

    Here here Dennis.

Look at Anquetil, his pre race routine involved getting blattered on champagne and shagging his step-daughter and he still won the Tour de France. Bet he didn't waste time worrying about his heart rate.

I love the drinks raids! I'd like to do that on my morning commute ;)

Excellent stuff and the videos surrounding it are very good too. I particularly liked the 3 depicting someone's idea of the 30 best riders ever.

All well worth watching. Lance comes only 7th behind Big Mig but ahead of Sean Kelly. Winner? Who do you think? But Hinault is rated number 2. The stuff of passionate argument :)

Hah!! What a coincidence. I happened to stumble across that film in my favorite obscure video store a few months back. It was done by the french film director Louis Malle and I believe it's titled "Vive Le Tour" as in the YouTube title. I can't remember exactly but I believe it's about 30mins long with sparse info about the riders so it helps to know your cycling history a bit. Very interesting!
